Matinee Musicale has been a presenter of chamber music in Duluth for over a century, bringing world-c Not too shabby.

Welcome to our season: young performers, fresh interpretations of the classics, cutting-edge compositions and the rhythms and colors of world music. Matinee Musicale has kept the music going for a very long time — in fact, we’re one of the three oldest music presenters in the United States. We’ve stood up to some daunting challenges: the Great Moose Lake-Cloquet Fire of 1918, the Spanish Influenza

, and two World Wars. And we hold a great track record for booking stars on the rise: Pablo Casals, Percy Grainger, Shirley Verrett, and Paul Robeson, Osmo Vänskä and Dawn Upshaw, to name a few. After over a hundred years of putting on great concerts, we’ve learned a thing or two about picking out winners and bringing them to our community. Tickets are inexpensive, parking is free, and you’ll enjoy sitting nice and close for a truly intimate experience.

Matinee Musicale is thrilled to announce its 2026-27 season! After a 35-year pause, we are returning to a five-concert line-up, beginning in October with a return engagement by the award-winning Balourdet Quartet. Then in November, we welcome the Chicago Symphony Orchestra Brass Quintet for their first-ever Duluth appearance.

The season continues in January with Duluth native and mezzo-soprano Georgia Jacobson and her husband baritone Ryan Wolfe. Then in February we host an encore concert by Ukrainian guitarist Marko Topchii. We conclude in April with the highly regarded Finnish pianist Juho Pohjonen.

Thank you to everyone who supported Matinee Musicale through Tempo With a Twist this past Sunday. Together we raised over $10,000 to support our concert series and educational program!

Musically, our afternoon offered Paris-style jazz from the Hawk Ridge Hot Club, a xylophone performance from UWS senior Jaewon Kim, and then Lian Okajangas on violin with Jim Pospisil on piano. Coupled with a delicious buffet and an exciting silent auction, our third annual Tempo With a Twist was a huge success!

Matinee Musicale’s Tempo With a Twist Silent Auction is filled with great items. There will be tickets from the SPCO and Guthrie Theater and unique experiences including an authentic German dinner for six, and joining the post-concert dinner with one of our visiting artists next season. You can even bid on an afternoon sailing on Lake Superior!

The morning after their Sunday concert at Pilgrim Congregational Church, the Isidore Quartet conducted a masterclass at UMD's Weber Hall. Students benefitted from their insightful instruction, which one described as the perfect blend of focusing on technique and artistry.

A large and enthusiastic crowd was on hand for the Isidore Quartet's concert this past Sunday. Their stunning program of Haydn, Ligeti and Brahms was followed by a standing ovation and an encore of Geistliches Lied, Op. 30 (Brahms, arr. Devin Moore), a piece originally composed for organ and choir.

Our mouths are watering. We just finalized the menu for Tempo With a Twist (happening April 26)!

Blackwoods Catering will be providing delicious house-smoked salmon, Swedish meatballs, gourmet cheese board, crostini w/avocado & radish, garden fresh vegetables w/hummus!
