PWHU held its 31st Clearfield County Youth Field Day Saturday June 6 at Camp Mountain Run. Nearly 100 youth ages 7-14, their parents, and about 100 volunteers were treated to a live black bear demonstration by the PA Game Commission in addition to nine interactive stations throughout the day. Thank you to all the sponsors, the volunteers, and Heidi Harvey and Marty Hrin for heading up the event once again. Special thanks to members of Bennetts Valley Rod and Gun Club for spearheading kitchen duties and preparing lunch and dinner for all participants. Also thank you to Bennetts Valley Ambulance for being on duty all day. Congratulations to raffle ticket winners Dave McClure ($500 Grice Gun Shop gift card donated by Grice Gun Shop), Jim Dungey (Elk Country Experience for Four donated by Keystone Elk Country Alliance), and Bob Schwabenbauer (Framed Print donated by PA Game Commission).

Nine PWHU members performed the first litter pickup of the year on Rockton mountain today. A 10th member provided excellent support by sending her famous and delicious chocolate chip cookies, and of course that was Kathy Schmidt...we all thank you for the goodies and the take-home bags! It was a cool 50 degrees but nice and sunny and we "got 'er done"! Thank you to Don Schmidt who coordinated with PennDOT and set up the signage. Others participating were Bruce Cessna, Beth Giese, Will Hammer, Heidi Harvey, Linda, Dave McClure, Bob Michuck, and Craig Wensel. Stay tuned for the next one, probably in September.

Dillon Boleen helped stock trout from the Mt. Lick Trout Nursery this morning. PWHU is a sponsor of the nursery, run by our treasurer Galen Kilmer. It was Galen's son Andy who opened the nursery years ago as his Eagle Scout project. The nursery is situated near the dining hall at Camp Mountain Run and has undergone yearly improvements with grants from the PA Fish and Boat Commission and in coordination with Boy Scout Troop 27. There are now two covered and enclosed runs. Shown in one photo is Dillon's wife Laken and son Carter, and other photos of Dillon and Carter. It turned out to be a beautiful, sunny, even though a bit chilly, day! 🦈 Thank you to all who helped! And thank you to Dillon for the photos! #

Moshannon Chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation held its annual banquet tonight in DuBois. NWTF donated $500 to the Clearfield County Youth Field Day to be held June 6, 2026. PWHU was a sponsor to the banquet and won a few prizes that will be placed on a future raffle. The club won two sponsor prizes, a Savage 93R17Walnut Bolt .17HMR Bolt with 3-9×40 scope and a R***r Max 9, and a deluxe blind shelf organizer. Accepting the check and the prizes were PWHU representatives Beth Giese and Heidi Harvey. Heidi's grandson Will Hammer also attended his first banquet and won his first gun, the mystery gun, which was a Tri-star 12-gauge shotgun with the NWTF insignia engraved on the stock...quite the highlight of the night which started the string of winnings at the table! Congratulations Will, who is one of our new members, and all of PWHU!
