Our Academy Scholars are getting to know each other and learning more about themselves! 💙

As part of our “Who Am I?” unit, Scholars paired up for two-minute conversations about their interests, strengths, and assumptions people make about them. We also explored identity, empathy, and how our actions help others feel included and valued. It’s exciting to see this community grow as we bring the lessons to life!

These moments are such an important part of our Academy program. We’re building relationships, learning together, and creating a community where our Scholars feel supported as they work toward their goals.

Over the past year, we celebrated with two of our Scholars as they chose to be baptized—meaningful milestones in their personal spiritual journeys. 💛

Supporting our youth includes nurturing their sense of purpose, making space for questions, and honoring their individual beliefs and traditions. We’re grateful to walk alongside them as they grow.

Pizza, laughter, and connection filled the HOPE HOUSE as Scholars enjoyed our “Don’t Be an Airhead!” (the candy!) icebreaker and shared “What I Bring to the Table.” 🍕🙌

Social justice and life skills assessments helped us learn how to support their growth. Scholars also created group agreements for themselves, each other, AND staff—centered on kindness, trust, teamwork, and accountability. Snacks made the list, too! 😂

Last night, we launched a new year of our Academy program, and our Hope House was filled with new faces, returning scholars, laughter, and the beginnings of new friendships. 💛 These are the young people at the heart of everything we do.

At Hope Ignites Detroit, our scholars receive free academic support, mentorship, college and career preparation, life skills education, and opportunities to explore social justice and serve their communities. We provide meals, transportation, and a caring team to walk alongside them as they grow.
