Pope Francis Center Pope Francis Center provides a welcoming, safe place for those experiencing homelessness to tend to

Pope Francis Center is a Jesuit ministry which provides meals, supportive services, and housing assistance to Detroit community members in need, especially those experiencing homelessness. Located in the heart of downtown Detroit, our ministry is made possible thanks to the generosity of our surrounding community. On an average day, we welcome nearly 200 guests and serve as many nutritious meals.

We also provide warm showers, laundry services, and access to doctors, dentists, lawyers, mental health professionals, and housing providers through our free clinics.

Most importantly, we recognize the inherent dignity in each person who comes to us and treat them with the love God offers to all His children.

🎁A simple gift can make a world of difference.

Ronnie and Rebecca have been part of the Pope Francis Center community for years. Those who know them know that Ronnie has always looked out for Rebecca. Recently, however, Ronnie's own health challenges have made daily life much more difficult. After being diagnosed with cancer, his mobility declined significantly, making it harder for him to move around safely.

Today, while enjoying a meal together and having their laundry done at our Day Center, Ronnie received a brand-new walker—giving him greater stability, independence, and the ability to rest when needed.

This meaningful gift was made possible through the generosity of an anonymous donor who purchased the walker from our Amazon Wishlist.

You too can provide hope and comfort for our guests by shopping our Amazon Wishlist, found here: https://www.amazon.com/hz/wishlist/ls/34HE6WWZDXK1W/ref=hz_ls_biz_ex?viewType=grid

Thank you to everyone who supports our guests in ways both big and small.

🏁 More than a race. More than a weekend. More than a finish line.

The Detroit Grand Prix's impact reaches far beyond the streets of downtown Detroit. In a recent Detroit News feature, PFC was highlighted as one of the Grand Prix's charitable partners, helping provide meals, healthcare, and essential services to hundreds of guests each day.

We're grateful for the support of Roger Penske, the Detroit Grand Prix team, and everyone who contributes to the efforts of this event and organization. Together, we're creating meaningful change for our neighbors experiencing homelessness.

Read our latest blog post to learn more about this partnership and its impact on our mission.

We’re honored to be one of the designated charity beneficiaries of this incredible event! 💛

This summer, thousands will gather in downtown Detroit for a powerful day of faith, worship, and revival — and we’re grateful that the Pope Francis Center will be part of the impact made through this movement.

As we work each day to walk alongside our neighbors experiencing homelessness, partnerships like this help make our mission possible. We hope you’ll join in prayer for our city and for all those seeking hope, healing, and community.

Last night, we had the honor of celebrating some of the most dedicated members of the Pope Francis Center family — our volunteers who have given 40+ hours of service to our mission over the last year! 💙

Our evening was filled with laughter, gratitude, and a whole lot of Detroit pride. Guests enjoyed a Detroit-themed dinner featuring coney dogs & sliders, Better Made chips, and Faygo soda floats, along with games, door prizes, and a special message from Fr. Tim about the incredible impact our volunteers make every single day.

What made the evening even more special was seeing so many staff members join in to personally thank the volunteers who help make our work possible. Whether serving meals, welcoming guests, supporting programs, or simply offering kindness and dignity — our volunteers are at the heart of everything we do.

To every volunteer who gives their time, energy, and compassion to our guests: thank you. You are helping transform lives across our community.

There’s pride in the little things — and they’re often not little at all. 🌱

This week, Jeffery, one of our residents at Bridge Housing took time to mow the lawn and help care for the place he currently calls home. Moments like this reflect something bigger: stability, responsibility, and the rebuilding of daily routines that many of us take for granted.

At PFC, transformation happens one step at a time — through hard work, community, and the opportunity to move forward with dignity.

This morning, the line of guests waiting to enter our Day Center at 7am nearly wrapped around the building. Behind every person waiting is someone seeking safety, stability, a meal, a shower, or simply a place to be seen and treated with dignity.

We are seeing increased numbers every single day, and our team is working tirelessly to meet the growing need while continuing to provide compassionate care to each guest who walks through our doors.

This moment is a reminder that homelessness in our community is not slowing down — and neither can our response. Thank you to everyone who continues to stand with us, volunteer, donate, and advocate for our neighbors experiencing homelessness. Your support helps make this work possible.

Today, we're sharing an important update from our President & CEO, Fr. Tim McCabe. As the number of guests visiting our Day Center continues to rise, we are making difficult but necessary decisions to help ensure that we can continue serving our community safely and sustainably.

Over the next few weeks, we will be discontinuing clothing distribution at the Day Center, with limited exceptions for new underwear, socks, and - in the case of a true emergency - scrubs. As such, we will put a pause on accepting in-kind clothing donations.

These decisions were not made lightly, but with care, reflection, and a commitment to meeting the increasing challenges facing our neighbors experiencing homelessness and food insecurity. We recognize that clothing is an essential need. We are grateful that there are a number of Detroit organizations that are well positioned to help - and we will be ready to direct our guests to those partners.

We invite you to read Fr. Tim’s full letter here: https://popefranciscenter.org/serving-with-sustainability-responding-to-increasing-community-need/

Thank you for continuing to walk alongside us with compassion, flexibility, and hope.

🎉Five more lives changed—and we couldn’t be more proud.

This week, we celebrated the graduation of Allan, Ed, James, Le'Man, and Tommy - five individuals who have put in the work, stayed committed, and made powerful strides forward. Their journeys haven’t been easy, but that’s what makes this moment so meaningful.

Transformation is one of our core values at Pope Francis Center, and these graduates embody it through and through. It’s about more than completing a program—it’s about rebuilding, rediscovering purpose, and stepping into what’s next with confidence and stability.

It certainly wasn't easy. During the celebration, Ed shared "...following direction was the hardest thing in the world...but I had to do it. I had to humble myself, because I had a goal. And at the end of the rainbow, God gave me my home."

To our newest graduates: your resilience inspires us, and your future is yours to shape. We’re honored to have been part of your journey, and will continue to be here for you whenever you need us. Welcome home.

At our Bridge Housing Campus, transformation happens every day through hard work, determination, and a commitment to building a brighter future. Our residents put in the effort to create real change in their lives—but just as important are the moments of connection and community along the way.

Sometimes, that looks like gathering around a puzzle, sharing laughs, and enjoying a little well-earned downtime together. Because building a strong foundation isn’t just about the big milestones—it’s also about the small moments that remind us we’re not doing it alone. 🧩
