A Detroit mother of three came to UCHC after months without heat in unsafe housing. Then, before her legal move-out date, her landlord changed the locks and threw nearly everything her family owned, including her children’s Christmas gifts, onto the curb.

Our legal team fought back. After nearly a year of advocacy, the court awarded our client $25,000 in damages.

This is what housing justice looks like: standing with Detroit families, protecting their rights and holding landlords accountable when those rights are violated.
