Fifteen students. One international destination. Countless moments of growth. And yes... all 14 made it home in one piece. ❤️🇯🇵

Last month, our students traveled to Japan after 5 months of preparation, for an experience that reached far beyond the classroom. They navigated unfamiliar places, built new relationships, embraced a different culture, and discovered what they're capable of when they step outside of what they know.

Experiences like these aren't vacations. They're opportunities to build adaptability, confidence, curiosity, and a broader understanding of the world...skills that stay with our students long after the flight home.

We couldn't be more proud of the way they represented DBG, supported one another, and embraced every opportunity to learn. The memories will last a lifetime, but the growth is only beginning. 💛

A new school year is just around the corner, and together we can help every DBG student start it prepared.

From backpacks and notebooks to calculators and pencils, the supplies inside a backpack can make all the difference on the first day of school. That's why we've created Amazon Wish Lists organized by grade level, making it easy to support our students.

Whether you purchase one item or several, every donation helps remove a barrier to learning and reminds our students that an entire community is behind them.

📅 Please donate by August 18 so we have time to pack every backpack before our Back to School Bash & Orientation.

🔗 Visit the link below to shop or donate.

Together, we can help every DBG student walk into the new school year feeling prepared, confident, and ready to learn.

Family dinner has never just been about the meal.

It's about slowing down, pulling up a chair, and making room for one another. At DBG, our Family Fellowship Dinners bring students, staff, and community together around food and conversation. Each dinner is led by a local chef who shares a meal rooted in their own story, reminding us that every recipe carries history, culture, and care.

Chef Booze never disappoints. But more than the food, it's the feeling that keeps us coming back.

Because growth doesn't only happen in classrooms or programs. Sometimes it happens around a table, one shared meal at a time. ❤️

A child can have incredible teachers. A child can have incredible mentors. But when families and educators are working together?

That's when transformation happens.

Our Parent Committee reminds us that youth development has never been a one-person job. It takes conversations at home. It takes trust. It takes showing up for meetings, events, and one another. These parents do all of that—and more.

They're not on the sidelines of their children's journeys. They're helping build the environment where every student has the chance to thrive.

Thank you to our Parent Committee for bringing your energy, your ideas, and your love for this community into everything you do. Interested in joining? DM us and we will tell you how!

We are better because you're here.

Growth doesn't happen alone.

When Coach Gerrard recognized Aniyah's passion for footwear design, he helped connect her with an opportunity at Pensole Lewis College. Aniyah took that opportunity and never looked back.

Through her GDYT placement, she spent last summer at Pensole, learning not only the craft of footwear design, but the business behind bringing an idea to life. She immersed herself in the work, asked questions, built relationships, and continued sharpening her skills.

She didn't keep that knowledge to herself. While learning at Pensole, Aniyah created a curriculum to introduce DBG students to the world of shoe design, showing them that creativity can become a career. She also designed a custom cleat for the Detroit Lions' My Cause My Cleats initiative, bringing her vision to one of the biggest stages in sports.

This year, she's graduating from both high school and DBG. And she's heading back to Pensole Lewis College on a full-ride scholarship to continue pursuing the dream she's been working toward.

This is what Growth Never Graduates looks like.

A coach who sees potential. A student who says yes to the opportunity. A young leader who returns to share what she's learned so others can dream bigger too.

Congratulations, Aniyah. Thank you for showing us what's possible when passion meets opportunity. We couldn't be prouder, and we can't wait to see what you design next. 💜

Growth doesn't happen by accident.

At our 2nd Annual Jr. Coach Internship Capstone Fair, students stood in front of staff, peers, and supporters to share what they learned, how they grew, and who they're becoming. What people saw were presentations. What made those presentations possible were months of mentorship, accountability, encouragement, feedback, and real-world experience from staff who invested in them every step of the way.

Leadership isn't something we teach from a workbook. It's built through relationships, responsibility, and opportunities to practice.

We're proud of every Jr. Coach who presented and grateful for every staff member who helped make their growth possible.

The next generation of leaders is already here. 💜

Supporting young people means being prepared to protect them.

Yesterday, our entire team spent the day with Care House for Mandated Reporter and Human Trafficking Training, strengthening our ability to recognize signs of abuse, exploitation, and situations where a young person may need support.

At DBG, relationships are at the center of everything we do. The trust students place in us comes with responsibility. Training like this helps ensure we're equipped to respond with care, knowledge, and action when it matters most.

Thank you to Care House for sharing your expertise and helping us continue to create a safe, informed, and supportive environment for every student and family we serve.
