🌿 Help Us Build Echoes of the Community 🌿

Every neighborhood has a story. Ours deserves a place to live forever.

We’re so excited to share that W.I.S.E. Partnership has launched a GoFundMe campaign to build Echoes of the Community, a winding storytelling pathway at the W.I.S.E. Central Hub in Detroit’s 48206. Along this path, art, words, and living green space will tell the history of this neighborhood.

Our W.I.S.E. art team, a group of talented women artists, is building it alongside young people from our Power of Our Voice program. Together, they are honoring the farmers, mothers, and teachers who helped shape this community. The art our youth create will live permanently in the greenhouses at the W.I.S.E. Community Farm, right where the pathway leads.

Your gift will help cover landscaping, construction, and carpentry, and it will support the artists and young people bringing this lasting space to life. We want Echoes of the Community to be a source of pride for our neighbors and a destination for visitors from all across Detroit and even Canada.

DETROIT — WE NEED 50 TRUNKS!

WISEFest is back, and this year we’re turning Trunk or Treat into an entire COMMUNITY experience.

50 TRUNKS. ONE COMMUNITY.

We’re inviting families, neighbors, businesses, churches, organizations, alumni groups, fraternities and sororities, car clubs, community leaders, and anyone who loves Detroit to claim a trunk and join us.

Community Heroes

Then make it YOURS.

Decorate your trunk. Put on a costume. Fill that trunk with candy. And get ready to welcome hundreds of Detroit children!

And yes — we’re making it a challenge.

Last year, more than 600 children joined us for WISEFest. This year, we want to create something even more memorable — five themed neighborhoods filled with 50 decorated trunks and a whole lot of community love.

Detroit, this one is for us. 💛

A few of us grew up in 48206 when porches were full and everybody waved. Neighbors looked out for each other. Children had somewhere to go, and elders had someone to listen. That feeling built me, and it is what we are building again at 2700 W. Chicago Blvd.

The W.I.S.E. Central Hub is rising on land that sat empty for more than fifty years. Cherry trees and dogwoods are in the ground. The Community Bench feeds our neighbors. Six hundred children filled this land at WISEFest. Next comes a working farm, a market and café, a gallery, and a storytelling pathway where our elders' voices will live forever.

Now we need you.

Mint is looking for two emerging creatives to join our team this fall. The first will work on marketing and communications, from videos to social media campaigns and more. The second will work on improving paintings, framing prints, preparing materials for exhibits and other assignments in our studios. These are both very part-time roles aimed at creative youth ages 16 to 24 who live in or near Detroit. Please send a resume to [email protected] if interested.

Honored in Washington, D.C.

Yesterday, September 17, our Executive Director, Barbara Kellom, had the privilege of receiving a national recognition on behalf of W.I.S.E. Partnership. Congresswoman Maxine Waters and the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation honored 10 nonprofits across the nation, and W.I.S.E. Partnership is among them. This recognition honors "our service, our commitment, and our lasting impact."

This honor belongs to our community. It belongs to every youth, neighbor, volunteer, partner, board member, and supporter who has shown up for W.I.S.E. since 2021. We are centered in 48206, and our work is for all of Detroit and beyond.

This recognition arrives during our 5th Anniversary month. Thank you to Congresswoman Waters and the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation for seeing this work. The work continues, and our community is at the center of it.

Music on the Blvd wouldn't be the same without Mint Artists Guild. They came through with face painting that turned jazz resistant kids into willing participants real quick. Funny how a butterfly on your cheek can make you stick around for a saxophone solo.

This is what community partnership looks like. Mint Artists Guild showed up for the youth, added color and joy to the afternoon, and reminded us that art meets people where they are.

The community matters to W.I.S.E. Partnership, and partners like Mint Artists Guild are why these events work.
