Latina Leadership Initiative of Greater Des Moines

The Latina Leadership Initiative of Greater Des Moines (LLI) is the only leadership development program focused on Latina women in Iowa. LLI focuses on filling a gap in the lack of culturally appropriate leadership training for emerging Latina leaders, ages 20 and above and cultivates social responsibility and attention to the needs of the broader Latino/x community. LLI participants receive the e

ncouragement necessary to realize their potential through leadership training, focusing on personal growth, professional advancement, and community networking and engagement. The empowered participant will serve on boards, commissions, and in leadership roles throughout our communities.

Congratulations to the 2026 Leadership Program Cohort!

Over the past five months, these incredible women invested in their professional and personal growth, demonstrating dedication, courage, and a commitment to becoming stronger leaders. It was an honor to celebrate their achievements and recognize the impact they are already making in our communities and workplaces.

They are trailblazers. They are capable. They are inspiring. And we can't wait to see what they accomplish next.

A special thank you to Noemi Mendez, our keynote speaker, whose words inspired, challenged, and empowered our cohort. Your authenticity, wisdom, and encouragement reminded us that leadership begins with courage, purpose, and a willingness to lift others as we rise. Thank you for leaving a lasting impact on every woman in the room.

Special thanks to Reyes Tamales and Dulce Vida Desserts for providing the incredible food and desserts that made our celebration even sweeter.

A heartfelt thank you to our sponsors and partners who made this program possible. We are especially grateful to Grand View University and Alex Piedras for their unwavering support and hard work throughout every session. Special thanks to our: Premier Sponsor: Prairie Meadows Casino, Racetrack & Hotel. Champion Sponsors: EMC Insurance, Chrysalis Foundation, Greater Iowa Credit Union, Community Foundation of Greater Des Moines, and McAninch.

We are also deeply appreciative of our community partners, mentors, speakers, and Board of Directors who generously shared their time, expertise, and encouragement throughout the program.

And most importantly, thank you to our participants. Your commitment, engagement, and willingness to grow made this cohort truly exceptional.

Keep your vision clear, stay committed to your goals, and trust that every challenge is helping you grow stronger along the way.

Wishing you a wonderful weekend and renewed motivation for the week ahead!
