Drake Law Public Interest Law Association This is Drake Law School's Public Interest Law Association's (PILA) official page. "Public service" is defined as follows:

1.

Drake Law School desires its students to perform public service without compensation or academic credit. The university recognizes both the inherent value of those services to the providers and the recipients. To promote public service, the Drake Law Public Interest Law Associations will compile a non-exclusive list of service opportunities in which students can engage. The Law School will recogni

ze, with an appropriate certificate, any student who completes sixty (60) hours of public service during the student's law school career, and will honor at Supreme Court Day any student who has completed sixty (60) hours of public service prior to Supreme Court Day. Any student desiring recognition must apply to the Assistant Dean, specifying the particulars of the public service for which recognition is sought. This application must be filed at least two weeks before the student's graduation date. If the Assistant Dean determines that recognition is warranted, it shall be accorded. Providing services (legal or non-legal) to persons of limited means, or;

2. Providing legal services to charitable, religious, civic, community, governmental, and education organizations under the supervision of an attorney or Drake Law School professor and with the specific permission of the Assistant Dean.

3. Participating in activities for improving the law, the legal system, or the legal profession.
