Can you spot the yellow-rumped cacique in the trees of the Discovery Center? 👀🐦

Named for the bright yellow feathers on their rump, these social birds are often found in groups. In the Discovery Center, you may spot them among many other birds! Adults primarily eat insects but also supplement their diet with fruit, nuts, and seeds. 🍇

Meet Kya, Blank Park Zoo’s newest giraffe calf! Born just after 8 a.m. on Monday, August 17, Kya is Skye’s second calf born at the Zoo.

Kya means “diamond in the sky” in Swahili. It’s a beautiful connection to her mom, and especially meaningful as we celebrate Blank Park Zoo’s Diamond Jubilee! 💎🦒

More than 28,000 votes were cast at the Iowa State Fair and online. Thank you to everyone who watched, voted and followed along with this incredible journey.

IT’S A GIRAFFE BABY SHOWER! 💛🦒

The wait is almost over! We’re announcing the name of the new giraffe calf at the Zoo tomorrow, Saturday, August 29!

The celebration begins at 11 a.m., with the calf’s name revealed at NOON!

And there’s even more reason to join in! Every donation or giraffe adoption of $25 or more made from now through the baby shower will be entered for a chance to win a behind-the-scenes giraffe tour!

PLUS, your donation will be matched, up to $10,000, thanks to a very generous giraffe lover! That means your gift can go twice as far.
