Leg senate file 2201, 2472: Do you know how recently enacted law changes school funding formulas? School finance is dense, so here's the short version: these two laws determine how much money districts have to work with. Senate File 2201 raises the state's per-pupil funding rate by 2% for the upcoming year which funds the general pool districts draw from for staffing, professional development, and programming, including what is used for students receiving Tier 1 interventions in the regular classroom. Senate File 2472 is a larger overhaul of how property taxes fund schools statewide; the piece most relevant to classrooms is that it redirects a larger share of the state's SAVE fund (previously dedicated to school infrastructure) toward property tax relief instead, phased in over the next five years. Neither law targets gifted programming specifically, but both affect the overall budget picture your district is working within this year and going forward. We hope you have an excellent start to the new school year! https://www.legis.iowa.gov/legislation/BillBook?ba=SF2201&ga=91 https://www.legis.iowa.gov/legislation/BillBook?ba=SF2472&ga=91
