This past week, we inagurated a brand new pack house and cold room at the Abakoranamurava Cooperative in Rwanda.

This packhouse and cold storage room will reduce post-harvest losses, maintain quality standards, and increase access to competitive markets, meaning greater profits for women part of the Cooperative.

It’s one step in our broader mission to build lasting resilience and sustainable growth for communities across Rwanda. At ADP, we’re committed to supporting progress that endures.

At ADP, we've adapted as the needs of local communities have changed!

When we started supporting women in Gayaza in Uganda, the community was rural, with most families relying on small plots of farmland for their subsistence. However overtime, Gayaza's story has shifted, turning into a peri-urban hub. Women began seeking new opportunities. In order to help them achieve long-term success, we launched a vocational sewing program.

Since then, these programs have evolved into community-driven business models designed to generate income and reduce reliance on external funding. In addition to tailoring there are computer literacy training courses and our Microbusiness Development Program!

This is the power of being connected with local communities and advocating for their needs 💪 This is how you empower communities of strong women!

When Florence Mukambonera, 62 years old, walked into the ADP Impact Hub, she was not sure where her future would lead, only that she wanted something meaningful to hold onto.

“I wasn’t employed,” Florence recalls. “I was looking for something I could do to earn a decent living.”

When she joined the program, Florence had no tailoring skills at all. Today, she confidently makes baby dresses, boys’ shorts, school uniforms, skirts, and elegant dresses for women. Each stitch represents growth she never imagined was possible.

One moment stands out as a turning point: “When I completed boys’ shorts, one of the most complicated items, I knew I was going to go far,” she says. “It was a big challenge, but now I can do it confidently.”
That confidence has reshaped how Florence sees herself.

This is the power of believing in women. Investing in women today creates stronger tomorrows.

Meet Mukandekwe, a recent Microbusiness Development Graduate!

Before participating in the program, Mukandekwe was growing beans and corn to feed her family. Now, with everything she has learned, she is growing tomatoes that we can sell in Kigali City Market. Her profit has increased 5 times from what it was before the program.

When you invest in ambitious women you multiply impact!

International Day of Clean Energy! Today we celebrate more than clean power — we celebrate what that power makes possible.

At Africa Development Promise, clean energy is helping rural women farmers protect their harvest, their income, and their dignity.

Our off-grid solar-powered cold storage facility is changing what happens after the harvest. Before, women farmers worked tirelessly to grow fruits and vegetables, only to watch a large portion spoil before reaching market. Heat, distance, and lack of storage meant lost food, lost income, and lost opportunity.

Now, the story is different.

Post-harvest losses are dramatically reduced
💰 Farmers sell more of what they grow, increasing household income
👩🏾‍🌾 Women gain greater control over their economic future
🌱 Food waste is reduced, strengthening local food systems

Clean energy here isn’t just about the environment; it’s about economic resilience, food security, and women’s empowerment.
