From our Executive Director:
Each time I travel to Uganda, I find myself taking space to reflect on what I’m learning on the ground. These moments continue to shape how I think about impact, investment, and long-term change.
One of the clearest reminders is that communities already know what they need. When we ask, they respond with honesty, clarity, and wisdom that consistently challenges our assumptions.
I’m also reminded how deeply limited access to capital constrains growth—even for entrepreneurs who are already proving what is possible. Supporting scale, not just start-up, continues to feel essential.
I’ve come to appreciate even more the insight held by our Uganda team. Their proximity to participants gives them a depth of understanding that I rely on. My role is often less about directing, and more about listening closely and supporting their leadership.
The realities on the ground are also constant teachers. Infrastructure challenges—roads, electricity, connectivity—shape nearly every part of daily life. They require us to stay flexible, practical, and responsive in how we design programs.
Above all, I keep coming back to trust. Without it, progress stalls. With it, even the most complex work becomes possible.
And I’m continually struck by how innovation looks in this context. It is not abstract or theoretical. It is practical, resourceful, and shaped by what is available in the moment.
As I reflect on all of this, I keep returning to one core truth: education and skills training remain some of the most powerful catalysts for lasting change and Rooted Wisdom Africa does that well.
