Trumpets can sound heroic, celebratory, playful, or powerful, and theyā€™re often featured in fanfares, movie music, jazz, and orchestral favorites. Players create sound by buzzing their lips into the mouthpiece, and changing valves helps create different notes.

Thereā€™s something powerful about experiencing music from the inside.

When children sit surrounded by musicians, they donā€™t just hear the musicā€”they see bows moving, brass shining, fingers flying, and faces expressing emotion. They feel the vibrations, notice the different sounds coming from every direction, and become part of the musical experience itself.

Being inside the orchestra helps children engage with music through curiosity, movement, imagination, and joy in a way that simply isnā€™t possible from far away. Those moments of wonder and connection can spark a lifelong love of music. ā¤ļø

After more than 40 years with Inside the Orchestra, horn player Susan McCullough is retiring!

Susan has inspired generations of young listeners through school programs, public concerts, and Tiny Tots performances, sharing her love of music with thousands of children and families over the years.
