The CIJF is dedicated to funding legal services for detained immigrants

Shout out to a 5-person team of DU student leaders who recently hosted a block party to raise funds for CIJF!

Over 60 guests attended who enjoyed street tacos, a DJ, yard games and the opportunity to learn about CIJF.

They also collected $3,450 in donations for CIJF, which will be put to good use serving our detained friends.

Five students in a University of Denver leadership program are raising money and awareness for CIJF!

If you are in the area, we invite you to stop by our CIJF-DU block party on May 30 near the DU campus. The important details to know:

Date and time: Saturday May 30th, 3 - 7 pm

It’s a party, with a live DJ, band, food truck, and more!

CIJF partner Jose Gonzalez-Soria is boxing to raise money for CIJF! Our friends at Boulder’s Corner Boxing Club are hosting the event, helping amateur boxers raise money for their favorite charities. If you are available the evening of May 30, please join us at 6 pm at the Boulder Theater! You can buy tickets and donate at the link in our bio or events highlight! The Corner Boxing Club in Boulder gives boxers an opportunity to raise funds for their favorite charities while fighting in the ring.

Jorge Gonzalez-Soria will be boxing at the Boulder Theater on the evening of May 30th at 6 pm (doors open at 5), and the undercard fighters event will be from 1-4 pm (doors open at 12).

He is raising money for CIJF while in the ring. You can donate here to support Jorge and CIJF. This event is about more than boxing.It’s about: raising awareness and supporting undocumented community members.

The current administration is detaining immigrants for an extended amount of time for no legal reason. An effective way to combat this trend is to file habeas petitions.

Most immigration attorneys do not have habeas experience, so CIJF recently hosted a legal workshop to provide training in this area of law.

Nearly 60 attorneys attended, and are now ready to file petitions for CIJF clients!

CIJF is grateful to partner with DU students who are working to raise awareness of immigration detention and who are raising money on behalf of CIJF!

Mark your calendars with the May 30th Block Party Fundraiser with live music and food from 3-7 pm led by these students!

Also, keep an eye out for the legal zine these students have created to support immigrant families and the detained with finding the necessary pro-bono legal services for them, like CIJF's.

In 2018, CIJF board member Selky Azaah fled to the US after enduring imprisonment and torture in Cameroon.

In 2019, we visited Selky in detention in Aurora, and he became our friend.

We raised money to hire an immigration attorney, and Selky won asylum in August of that year - inspiring us to launch CIJF.

Last week, Selky passed his citizenship test, and he is only weeks away from becoming a US citizen!

Running for a Cause!

Mexican American film producer Amanda Cruz Gonzalez will be competing in the Colfax Marathon in Denver on May 17, and Amanda wants to raise money for CIJF along the way!

While donations of any amount are welcome, we'll send a CIJF t-shirt to everyone who contributes $150 or more.

Mother and daughter reunited!

Earlier this year, “Sofia” was arrested by ICE and placed in detention, leaving behind her 16-year-old daughter.

CIJF provided funding for two trusted attorneys to provide legal counsel for Sofia, and she was subsequently released from detention. This heart-warming photo was snapped after their joyful reunion.

We are still glowing from our Celebrating Stories event this past weekend!

Nearly 120 of you showed up and together we had a great time hearing from immigrants, immigration attorneys, and CIJF volunteers.

Thanks to our community members and donors we surpassed our goal and raised over $45,000 to support detained immigrants across the country.
