Last week, we shared the exciting news that work on the Medal of Honor Memorial and Honor Park project in Dayton was nearly complete.

Today, October 19, 2026, a crane lifted a 12-foot granite obelisk weighing 20,000 pounds into place. The obelisk bears the names of 41 area Medal of Honor recipients, including our very own Northridge High School Class of 1966 alumnus, Joseph Guy LaPointe, Jr.! The monument was then topped with a 7,000-pound granite globe, etched by hand. It looks amazing!

The renamed Honor Park is located at the intersection of the Third Street Bridge and Edwin C. Moses Boulevard in Dayton. In addition to honoring these 41 Medal of Honor recipients, the park will serve as a lasting tribute to the more than 110,000 veterans who live in Montgomery County and surrounding counties.

The formal unveiling of the Medal of Honor Memorial and Honor Park will take place on Friday, November 13th, at 2:00 p.m. Several members of the Northridge Alumni Veterans Memorial committee to plan to attend the unveiling. Hope to see several of Guy's classmates and other Northridge Polar Bears attend this very special event.
