Exciting news from ExSSA Dallas leadership this morning!

ExSSA Dallas was officially invited by the Mayor’s Office to Dallas City Hall to discuss our upcoming 25th Anniversary Celebration — a homecoming for ExSSA USA, founded right here in Dallas. This anniversary is truly a “return to the cradle.”

We shared our 25-year impact, vision, and invited the Mayor to our Opening Ceremony.

A powerful moment: In the International Flag Room we noticed the Cameroon flag was missing. We shared our hope to see it represented, and a motion has now been submitted for consideration 🇨🇲

The Duchesses continue to make history!

In Loving Memory of Dr. Belinda Assam née Oben.

It is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved sister, Dr. Belinda Assam née Oben, who transitioned on May 25, 2026, in Douala, Cameroon.

Captured on video in white sunglasses, Sister Belinda was enjoying a beautiful EXSSA USA moment at the 2025 Annual General Meeting in Limbe. Her smile, her presence, her grace and just like that, she is gone.

A proud “Plucky” of the Class of 1977, she was a staunch and dedicated member of EXSSA who served in multiple leadership roles with wisdom and unwavering commitment. Her impact on our sisterhood and her service will never be forgotten.

She was the beloved mother of two Sakerettes:
Charlene Effa Njume née Assam (EXSSA MAL Chapter, Class of 2010)
Dr. Larissa Ndiep Assam (Class of 2008)

Dr. Ndiep made history as the first Senior Prefect from Saker Baptist College to attend an EXSSA USA Convention, hosted by DC Metro in 2009, where she represented SBC with distinction.

We extend our heartfelt condolences to Effa, Ndiep, and the entire Assam, Oben, and Enyong families, not forgetting her Plucky sisters. During this difficult time, we pray that God grants them comfort, strength, and peace that surpasses all understanding.

May Sister Belinda’s gentle soul rest in perfect peace.

Five years ago, we changed Henrietta's label from IDP to Sakerette. Henrietta arrived at Saker Baptist College not simply as an internally displaced girl, but as a Dreamer through ExSSA USA’s Dreamers Scholarship.
The Scholarship was created to do more than pay fees. It covers full tuition, academic and personal supplies through Saker’s seven-year program: Form One to Form Five, then Lower Sixth to Upper Sixth. We also added holiday enrichment programs for knowledge beyond the classroom.
Henrietta entered Saker in Form One and has now completed the first cycle with distinction. Despite the disruptions of displacement, she adjusted to the rigors of Saker Baptist College with grit and grace.
This year, she was awarded Best Student in Human Biology and also received ExSSA USA’s Resilience Award for her perseverance and academic success.
Photo collage: Top right, Henrietta’s first visit to Saker during ExSSA USA’s three-day orientation before going to Saker. Bottom right, the day she tried on her uniform in preparation for Form One. And just like that, she has graduated from Form Five.
We wish her the very best as she prepares for the GCE O-Level exams. Two other Dreamers, who transferred into Saker in Form Two, have already aced their GCE O-Levels and are now in Lower Sixth at Saker. We expect the same excellence from Henrietta.
Another round of applause for our Dreamers Program Liaison and Project Manager, Beryl Ann Takor, whose dedication to the Dreamers has contributed greatly to their success.
ExSSA USA, we are making an impact. Gratitude to our National President Dr. Joyce Ashuntantang for all she has done to develop the Dreamers program, first as chair of the Dreamers scholarship Fund committee that organized the application and selection process and now as president of the association. We are grateful to all our donors for making these scholarships possible. Please donate to the Dreamers scholarship or Mentorship programs so we can continue to help girls in and out of Saker reach their full potential . ExSSA USA sponsored a total of 18 awards across six categories worth over half a million francs CFA at the 2026 Prize Award Ceremony at Saker Baptist College which took place on May 17. These awards recognized excellence in academics, leadership, discipline, resilience, athletics, and participation in mentorship programs curated by ExSSA USA. These awards extend our mentorship beyond words by affirming effort, nurturing confidence, and encouraging every Saker girl to see her gifts as worthy of recognition and growth.
We remain deeply grateful to all our donors, especially Dr. Rose Oma, class of 1978, whose generous financial support helped turn this mentorship vision into a living program of encouragement, recognition, and impact.
The award categories included:
- Most Disciplined Students in Forms One, Five, and Upper Sixth(3)
- Overall Best Students in Forms One, Five, and Upper Sixth(3)

Most Outstanding Servant Leaders(2)

- Awards for Resilience(2)

- Best Junior Athlete Star Award(1)

- Awards for Active Participation in the ExSSA USA Mentorship Programs (7)
The prizes donated by ExSSA USA were sourced, packaged, and officially handed over to the school administration by the ExSSA USA Dreamers Scholarship Program Manager and Liaison in Cameroon, Mrs. Beryl Ann Takor who was also in attendance and captured highlights of the ceremony in photographs.

Thank you our able Cat for stepping into that sacred gap of motherhood with passion and dedication. Thank you for allowing the children to stay connected to their friends and Saker Aunties. We promise to work on babysitting in Dallas so you can take a break.

I want to acknowledge on this Mother's Day, a special man, Mr. Anthony Gapngong, beloved husband of our cherished Saker sister, the late Mabel Gapngong.

It has been one year and counting since Mabel passed, and I have watched you step into the sacred gap left by her passing, carrying both fatherhood and motherhood with quiet strength and dogged determination.

You have done everything possible to preserve the beautiful rhythm Mabel created for your children: the routines, the love, the care, the sense of belonging. You minimized your own grief and brought them to the ExSSA USA Convention in Los Angeles barely four months after their mother’s passing so they could continue bonding with other children, just as their mother had done for two years straight.

It was not easy. I saw you juggling the children’s activities, making sure they were ready, making sure they were fed, even bringing cooked food from home, just as their mother would have done.

At the gala, you came forward to donate in Mabel’s name, yet you could not even stay to relax a bit. Duty called. You had to rush back to the hotel room to care for the children.

Yes, one whole year has gone by, and you have done an awesome job. Mabel would be proud. The children look well cared for and always beautifully dressed.

Now I see that you have signed them up again for the 2026 ExSSA USA Carats Convention in Dallas. That is love and legacy laced together. Mabel still lives in the choices you make for her children.

May God continue to grant you strength, wisdom, grace, and provision as you carry this sacred assignment of being both father and mother to them.

Happy Mother’s Day, Tony. Today, we see you.
