Oral discipleship has officially launched alongside our Phinisi Oral Bible Translation language project in Indonesia! 🙌🧡
Praise God for opening the door for the Lowe, Konjo, and Dentong communities to receive His Word in their heart language. And now, through the Spoken Oral Discipleship team, local leaders are being equipped to use translated Scripture to reach oral learners who have yet to hear God’s Word, and to disciple others who will disciple still more.
During the training, Mrs. Marta was given the story of Joseph to learn. Using her artistic gifts, she began by drawing the story. Then she turned it into a song. By the snack break, she and a guitarist were performing it for the entire group.
By the end of the day, the whole room was singing Scripture and dancing together.
By the final oral discipleship training session, seven original songs had been created—each one carrying a Bible story, and each one ready to travel into the community.
🎧️ For oral learners, this is deeply natural. Across oral cultures, songs are woven into everyday life. They carry history, preserve tradition, teach truth, and help communities remember what matters most. So when Scripture is shared through song, story, movement, and memory, God’s Word is not just heard, it is received, remembered, and passed on.
That is the power of God’s Word being shared in a way people can truly receive. This is why orality matters.
Written Scripture is a gift. But for oral learners to fully engage with God’s Word, they need access in a form that speaks to the way they learn, remember, and share. Oral Discipleship helps make that possible.
This is what it looks like when God’s Word comes alive in oral communities.🧡
🙏 Please pray for the local leaders now sharing Scripture with their communities. Pray that God would soften hearts, raise up disciple-makers, and use His Word to bring lasting transformation.
