Texas Women’s Foundation was founded on the belief that when you invest in a woman, there is a ripple effect that benefits her family, her community and her world. We’ve researched, funded and demonstrated the ripple effect for 28 years in North Texas, granting more than $24 million to help create opportunities and solve issues for women and girls. We operate like a community foundation, conductin

g our work and making grants with funds we raise from a broad base of individual donors and from donor advised funds held by the Foundation. Together with our donors and partners, we are the key that unlocks the ripple effect of investment in women and girls. Today, the ripple effect of investing in women is widely acknowledged in global and domestic economic policy and social change movements as one of the surest and most effective ways to create lasting change in communities and countries. We are unwavering in our commitment to unlock resources for women and girls in our region, our state and around the world. Few women embodied quite like Gloria Steinem. Texas Women’s Foundation joins people across the nation in mourning the passing of this pioneering activist.

Gloria Steinem spent her life challenging inequality, elevating women’s voices and inspiring action. Her legacy runs deep in Texas, from her advocacy in Dallas during the fight for the Equal Rights Amendment to her connection to the Dallas “Women Moving Millions” and her support of Texas Women’s Foundation’s mission.

: Across Texas, geography can determine whether a family has access to childcare at all.

Half of Texas counties are childcare deserts, meaning demand outpaces available care by a ratio of 3 to 1. Statewide, 111,490 Texas children live without care within a reasonable driving distance. And the gap isn't distributed evenly: rural communities face a 12.8% access gap, nearly double the 6.5% gap seen in urban areas.

This is not a scattered set of local shortages. It's a structural reality shaping opportunity across the state, and it hits rural families hardest.

At Texas Women's Foundation, we surface data like this because a childcare desert isn't just a geographic term. It's a barrier to work, to income, and to stability for women and families across Texas.

Remembering Dolly Parton: A Pioneer for Women and Change

Today, we honor the extraordinary life and legacy of Dolly Parton, a woman who showed generations what it means to lead with courage, authenticity and generosity.

Dolly was more than an icon. She was a trailblazer who built her own path in an industry often defined by men, becoming a songwriter, entrepreneur, philanthropist and powerful example of what is possible when women own their voices, their work and their futures.

Her impact reached far beyond the stage. Through her commitment to literacy, education and opportunity, Dolly used her success to open doors for others and strengthen communities. Her Imagination Library alone grew into a global literacy movement, putting hundreds of millions of books into the hands of children.

Dolly reminded us that strength and kindness can coexist, that authenticity is powerful and that true leadership is measured not only by what we achieve, but by how we use our influence to lift others.

Her music will live on. Her generosity will live on. And the doors she helped open for women will remain part of an extraordinary legacy. Texas Women’s Foundation joins millions around the world in remembering a true pioneer for women, possibility and change.

: Investing in Stability. Strengthening Families.

Texas Women’s Foundation is proud to invest $40,000 in Cumberland Youth & Family Services through the Mrs. H.L. (Ruth Ray) Hunt Memorial Fund, supporting single-parent families in Denton County with affordable housing and wraparound services that build pathways to economic security.

As CEO Karen Hughes White shared, “Affordable and stable housing is the foundation to a woman’s ability to build economic security, stability and success.”

This is our mission in action. In our most recent fiscal year, TXWF invested $3.2 million through grantmaking, including $822,000 through our Annual Community Grants Cycle supporting impactful work across North Texas.

📖 : The Future Is Female, Focused and Forward!

We’re proud to be featured in Advocate Lake Highlands, where Board Chair Cris Zertuche Wong and Chair-Elect Renda Mathew share their vision for the future of Texas Women’s Foundation and the work ahead to build a stronger Texas for women, girls and families.

From advancing childcare and healthcare advocacy to investing in research, grantmaking and the next generation of women leaders, their conversation reflects both the progress we’ve made and the opportunities ahead.

As Cris shares, there is tremendous work to celebrate, but there is still more work to do. With Renda preparing to step into the chair role in July 2027, that work will continue with vision, conviction and a deep commitment to ensuring women and their families can thrive.

: For many Texas families, childcare doesn't just compete with the family budget. It outpaces one of the biggest expenses they have.

The annual cost of childcare for an infant and a four-year-old averages $20,370 in Texas, more than the estimated average annual cost of housing at $16,770. Let that sink in: keeping a child cared for costs more than keeping a roof overhead.

That is not a sustainable reality for Texas families, and it is not one we can afford to accept as normal.

At Texas Women's Foundation, we lead with data because numbers like these demand action, not just awareness. When childcare costs outpace housing, women leave the workforce, household budgets break, and our state's economic potential shrinks with them.

This is why our research exists: to name the problem clearly enough that solutions become unavoidable.
