This is what Wednesday looked like. 💙

On June 10th, United Way of Metropolitan Dallas hosted our Summer Meals Kickoff at Albert C. Black Jr. STEAM Academy in South Dallas—and North Texas showed up in a big way.

850 families in attendance. 750 meals served. 400 grocery boxes distributed. 100 volunteers.

And every family who walked through those doors left with more than just a meal—they left connected to free meal resources available all summer long.

Thank you to every volunteer, partner, and sponsor who made this day possible—and to every family who trusted us enough to walk through those doors. This is what community looks like.

North Texas has a once-in-a-generation opportunity—and we don't want any community to miss it. 💙

United Way of Metropolitan Dallas is proud to support the North Texas Sports Foundation and the organizing committee for the world's largest international soccer tournament as they accept requests from community organizations to install mini pitches—small, hard-surface soccer fields—across North Texas. These aren't just places to play. They're catalysts for health, safety, and community pride that will serve neighborhoods for decades to come.

Nonprofit organizations, schools, and parks are encouraged to apply. Ideal sites include underused tennis courts, blacktop play areas, or parking lots roughly the size of a basketball court.

When Adara Cruz had her twins, she was raising three young children, struggling to stay afloat, and missing work because she couldn't find childcare she could count on.

Then she got childcare assistance and enrolled her kids at a local day school. Her very first week, she landed an interview at the City of Dallas—right across the street. Three years later, she's still there.

In her words, reliable care made it "a possibility to move on and move up."

That's what quality, affordable childcare makes possible: not just a safe place for kids, but a path forward for parents. And right now, too many Dallas families can't find it—especially with summer here and school out, when working parents are scrambling to cover care.

United Way of Metropolitan Dallas is proud to be part of the Dallas Childcare Works coalition—parents, educators, faith and business leaders working together so more North Texas families have the care they need to thrive.
