They won’t say it, but many dads who provide, protect, and guide their families feel they have little encouragement and even less support. It doesn’t have to be that way. At Buckner, we believe that when fathers are equipped, families are strengthened.

In the U.S., about 18.4 million children live without a biological, step, or adoptive father in the home. Fathers are absent in roughly 80% of single‑parent households. We see the results in elevated risks related to poverty, educational outcomes, and emotional health. Research has consistently shown that children with engaged fathers are more likely to perform better in school and less likely to experience behavioral challenges, law enforcement issues, or substance abuse.

Scripture reminds us that God never intended fathers to answer the call alone.

Buckner walks alongside fathers through Fatherhood EFFECT, offering free life-skill education and coaching in Beaumont, Longview, and their surrounding counties. The program serves expecting dads, biological dads, stepfathers, foster dads, kinship caregivers, guardians, and grandfathers of children up to age 17. Fatherhood takes many forms and we welcome them. Learn more about our program and the importance of strengthening dads: https://na2.hubs.ly/H06cyDY0

Buckner has been serving Midland families through our Family Hope Center since 1996. We are so grateful for the gift of being able to serve our families and children! Recently, we enjoyed a Buckner Midland Father's Day event, seeing father figures enjoy special one-on-one time with their children during a fun night of friendly cornhole competition! Dads and their kids enjoyed delicious meals, quality time together, and a special raffle.

“I believe we are here on the planet Earth to live, grow up and do what we can to make this world a better place for all people to enjoy freedom.” Rosa Parks

Juneteenth, also referred to as Emancipation Day in various states, marks the day in 1865 when Union troops arrived in Galveston, Texas, and announced the end of slavery — more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation. Officially declared a federal holiday in 2021, Juneteenth celebrates freedom and life. We honor those who paved the way and commit to building a more just future together.

Conoce a Maxin: de la Esperanza al Empredimiento 💙

Before coming to Buckner, Maxin lived for years with a desire to better herself and contribute financially to her household, yet family responsibilities and a lack of nearby opportunities kept her at a standstill. As a mother of three, she dreamed of personal growth without compromising her family's well-being.

At Buckner Dominicana, she found far more than just support; she found hope, guidance, and real opportunities to transform her life. Thanks to the staff's guidance, her children were able to join a safe after-school program, while she received training, strengthened her parenting skills, and discovered a talent that would change her future.

Today, Maxin is an entrepreneur and the founder of Lazos Maxin, a business that generates income for her family and has restored her self-confidence. Her story is a testament to how Buckner not only impacts lives but also paves the way for entire families to believe in a better future once again. Community shoe drives have been up and running here at our Buckner Family Hope Centers, with several others approaching soon!

The 15th annual Beaumont Community Shoe Drive in collaboration with KLBT Radio wrapped up with a Shoe Marathon Day held at Praise Church. Hidalgo County Commissioner, Eddie Cantu, made a generous donation to start off the Rio Grande Valley Community Shoe Drive and we've experienced the support of many returning supporters.

We are so blessed to witness the local community's generosity coming together to help collect pairs of shoes and socks, providing essential footwear to children locally and around the world.

We sat with husband, father, and Fatherhood EFFECT graduate, Adrian Moreno, and talk about the program, his journey to East Texas, and how men navigate being a provider and dad.

Our Fatherhood EFFECT program is helping men to reclaim their role in the family, not just as providers but as engaged fathers shaping a better future for their children. One of the programs available at Buckner Beaumont and Buckner Longview, Fatherhood provides resources, mentorship, and a loving community for fathers to thrive and grow in. Expecting fathers and fathers coming from all backgrounds with children up to age 17 can join.
