What can sexual assault kits tell us about patterns of sexual offending?

Join us Wednesday, October 28, for Lunch and Learn with Dr. Rachel E. Lovell, PhD, Associate Professor of Criminology and Director of the Criminology Research Center at Cleveland State University.

Dr. Lovell will discuss how testing previously untested sexual assault kits has expanded our understanding of serial offending, victimization patterns, and the often prolific and versatile nature of sexual offending.

CEU credits are available upon request.

Healing looks different for everyone.

For some, individual counseling feels like the right place to begin. For others, connecting with people who understand can be the first step toward healing.

DARCC offers free, trauma-informed support groups for survivors of sexual violence and loved ones of survivors. Led by licensed counselors, our groups provide a safe, supportive environment where you can share as much—or as little—as you feel comfortable.

Whether you're ready to participate now or simply want to learn more, we're here when you are.

Visit the link in our bio to learn more about counseling and support groups or contact our Clinical Services Line at 214-712-4901.

If you need immediate support, our 24/7 Sexual Assault Hotline is available at 972-641-7273.

Volunteer Spotlight: Marina

Marina has been volunteering with DARCC for nearly a year!

As a Program Manager at a technology startup, Marina stays busy balancing work with her favorite hobbies, including playing mahjong, reading, creating art, and traveling.

Her favorite part of volunteering is knowing she can provide comfort to survivors during difficult moments and help them understand that resources are available and that people believe them.

Her advice to new volunteers? It's normal to feel overwhelmed or nervous at first. What matters most is helping survivors feel supported, heard, and aware of their options.

Thank you, Marina, for your compassion and dedication to supporting survivors!

Interested in becoming an Advocacy Volunteer? Our next Advocacy Volunteer Training starts this Monday, October 19. Visit www.dallasrapecrisis.org/volunteer to learn more.

What happens when previously untested sexual assault kits are finally tested?

The results have helped researchers better understand patterns of sexual offending, including serial offending across both stranger and non-stranger victims.

On Wednesday, October 28, Dr. Rachel E. Lovell, PhD, will join us for Lunch and Learn to discuss what sexual assault kit testing can teach us about rapists, sexual offending patterns, victim justice, and community safety.

CEU credits are available upon request.

The recent Cornell case has sparked difficult conversations about consent, accountability, bystander intervention, victim blaming, and survivor support. Those conversations matter. But when the news cycle moves on, what happens to the questions the case raised?

This week’s Radiant Report looks beyond the headlines to examine what happens when a student reports sexual violence to a university.

What does Title IX actually require? What does a survivor’s access to education look like after reporting? What training should the people handling these cases receive? And what does meaningful institutional accountability look like beyond simply meeting federal requirements?

Federal requirements are the floor, not the ceiling.

Universities, students, faculty, staff, families, alumni, and communities all have a role in understanding how these systems work and asking whether they are truly supporting survivors.

The headlines will eventually move on. The questions should not.
