Urban forestry is not just tree planting—it is a multi-phase system requiring planning, education, careful species selection based on local conditions, and long-term maintenance strategies.

Each site is selected using canopy evaluations, heat mapping, drainage patterns, and projected urban planning to ensure long-term survivability.

Post-planting care, including watering schedules, mulching standards, and general monitoring, is critical to ensuring that these investments in plantings translate into mature canopy and sustained environmental benefits.

What appears as a simple planting is, in reality, infrastructure development with decades-long outcomes.

Trees function as green infrastructure systems that deliver quantifiable environmental services on a large scale.

Unlike traditional grey infrastructure, trees perform multiple roles: reducing surface temperatures, intercepting stormwater to reduce runoff, improving air quality through pollutant sequestration, and supporting biodiversity within urban ecosystems.

When integrated into city planning, trees can work in parallel — providing cost-effective, regenerative benefits over time.

Skip the traffic. Feel the breeze.

This National Bike to Work Day, we’re celebrating the simple joy of riding to work--and the role trees play in making that ride cooler, safer, and more comfortable.

Tree-lined streets don’t just make a ride prettier--they can actually feel safer. Studies show that drivers tend to slow down on streets with trees, and people are more likely to walk, bike, and spend time outside.

More shade = better rides
More trees = healthier, safer communities
Whether you’re a daily rider or just giving it a try today, every mile counts.

🌳💚 Big gratitude to Amazon and Dallas ISD for helping our Cool Schools Program grow! With 71 new trees planted on the grounds of Dr. Frederick Douglass Todd Sr. Middle School, students are already feeling the difference.

These trees will bring cooler temperatures, cleaner air, and greener spaces for learning, playing, and just being kids.

And the best part? Some students helped plant these trees across their campus, which is a great way to connect them to nature. This is what happens when partners invest in the future of Dallas students. Here’s to more shade, more smiles, and more green in our schools.

Trees function as living filtration systems, continuously interacting with the atmosphere through gas exchange and surface deposition.

Through stomatal uptake and leaf surface retention, trees remove key atmospheric pollutants including ozone (O₃), nitrogen dioxide (NO₂), sulfur dioxide (SO₂), and fine particulate matter (PM2.5).

Particulate matter is significant in urban settings due to its association with respiratory and cardiovascular health impacts. Tree canopy helps reduce exposure by capturing and stabilizing these particles on bark and leaf surfaces, preventing prolonged airborne circulation.

This process is continuous and scales with canopy density—making urban tree cover a critical component of creating greener, cleaner and healthier cities.

What if one of the simplest ways to support children’s mental health was right outside their classroom?

Trees create cooler, calmer spaces where kids can focus, reset, and thrive. This Children’s Mental Health Awareness Day, we’re celebrating the power of green schoolyards to support learning and beyond--to children's well-being.

Because healthier environments grow healthier minds.

We had an incredible day at Crawford Memorial Park, coming together with our community to plant 70 trees that will grow, shade, and support this space for years to come. Every tree planted is a step toward a cooler, healthier, and more resilient North Texas.
A big thank you to our amazing partners UPS via Arbor Day, Junior League of Dallas (JLD), and CBRE for helping make this impact possible, and to everyone who showed up, got their hands in the soil, and made a difference with us. 💚

We’re proud to recap an incredible planting at Thurgood Marshall Park in City Council District 7, where 50 new trees are now rooted in the heart of the community!

In partnership with the City of Dallas, Dallas Park and Recreation Department, and Atmos Energy, we came together to grow more than just a tree canopy — we’re growing shade, cleaner air, and long-term investment in District 7.

A huge THANK YOU to every volunteer who showed up ready to dig in (literally). Your energy, teamwork, and commitment to South Dallas made this day possible. 💚 These 50 trees will help cool down those triple-digit summer afternoons, create more comfortable gathering spaces near neighborhood schools and rec centers, and add beauty to the very blocks where families cheer at Friday night games, host weekend cookouts, and build community every single day. As District 7 continues to see growth, momentum, and neighborhood pride, this expanding canopy will be right there with it — strengthening property values, improving walkability, and supporting healthier outcomes for residents.

From Pleasant Grove to South Dallas pride, these trees are rooted in community and built for the future. 🌱 District 7, we’re growing with you.

52 new trees are now growing at the Dallas College Richland Campus! 🌳
In collaboration with Dallas College and CBRE, we planted 52 trees around the walking trail and tennis courts — creating cooler, greener spaces for students, faculty, and neighbors to enjoy.
Trees don’t just improve the environment — they also enhance learning. Shaded, natural areas reduce stress, boost focus and concentration, and create a more peaceful atmosphere for studying and outdoor activities. These trees will make the campus not only more comfortable but also more inspiring for education, wellness, and connection.
A heartfelt thank you to all the volunteers who rolled up their sleeves to plant these trees — your effort is helping grow a greener, healthier, and smarter campus! 💚🌱

April 16th, something special took root at Willoughby Park 🌳

An incredible group of volunteers came together to plant trees, strengthen community, and invest in a greener future for Dallas. Thank you to everyone who showed up ready to make a difference—we couldn’t do this without you.

A huge thank you to Cox Communications and Arbor Day Foundation for their generous support in making this planting possible.

Because of you, Willoughby Park will continue to grow, thrive, and serve the community for years to come 🌱

We’re excited to bring new life and lasting shade to Dallas Housing Authority Buckeye Trail Commons in City Council District 7! Through the USDA Forest Service and the South Dallas Greening Initiative, this planting is about more than trees — it’s about investing in the health, comfort, and future of South Dallas families.
Together, we’re expanding canopy where it matters most. These new trees will help cool homes during those long Texas summers, improve air quality along neighborhood corridors, reduce stormwater runoff, and create welcoming green spaces where residents can gather, kids can play, and neighbors can connect.
Thank you to every volunteer and partner who continues to show up and show out for this community. Your commitment is helping turn everyday spaces into greener, healthier places to live. 🌱
As District 7 continues to grow and thrive, this canopy will grow with it — supporting stronger blocks, brighter mornings on the trail, and more comfortable afternoons right outside residents’ front doors.
South Dallas is getting greener — one planting at a time. 💚
