🌲 Meet the Leaders Behind Our Nawakwa 🌲

We’re excited to introduce a new weekly series highlighting the dedicated individuals who serve on the Our Nawakwa, Inc. Board of Directors.
Beginning with our newest members, we’ll feature one board member each week—sharing their story, passion for Camp Nawakwa, and commitment to reconnecting youth to nature through camp, service, and leadership.

Our board is made up of 9 members who serve three-year terms, with opportunities to continue their service. Together, they provide leadership, guidance, and stewardship to ensure the long-term success and impact of Our Nawakwa.

Join us each week as we spotlight the people working behind the scenes to strengthen our mission and keep the spirit of Camp Nawakwa thriving for generations to come. 💚

Welcome to our 90th patch CAMPaign! As Camp Nawakwa turns 90, we want to share the stories of those who love camp. We want to relive all the good memories that have happened over the years. ✨⛺️🌲🥾🎶

💛 When asking Shadow about camp, she reflected on how a connection that began through volunteering in 1989 blossomed into a lifelong dedication to Nawakwa's mission. For her, whether directing events at camp, training hundreds of adult volunteers, or serving on the Board, seeing camp continue to shape lives decade after decade has been an incredible privilege. “Camp changes lives… giving youth opportunities to grow in ways that simply cannot be replicated elsewhere.”

💛 Today, she shared that her biggest takeaway from over three decades in the Nawakwa community is watching generations of youth discover strengths they didn’t yet know they had. She believes that when we create intentional spaces where kids can belong, explore, and grow, we aren’t just preserving traditions—we are gifting them lifelong friendships, outdoor resilience, and a lasting sense of purpose. 🛶💪

🛶 We asked Shadow about her favorite camp stories, which involve an unforgettable, squall-filled kayak trip through the Apostle Islands sea caves, a beloved song called "Wisdom," and a wild summer staff prank in 1993 where her entire bed was moved onto the camp raft! Check out the comments to see what she said and be sure to thank her for all that she is doing for Our Nawakwa! 👇🏼

Hello friends!

We are just TWO WEEKS away from Hoofbeat, and we’re officially in crunch time!

We still have several volunteer shifts that need to be filled to meet our commitment. These events are incredibly important for Our Nawakwa—they help cover operating costs throughout the year and ensure we can continue supporting the youth and community we serve.

If each of us signs up for just one shift—and brings along a friend, family member, coworker, or even someone new—we can absolutely make this happen!

Below are the shifts that still need volunteers. If you’d like to sign up and have more people than listed on the signup, just let me know and I’ll get everyone added.

Also, if you’re able to share this with your network, we would truly appreciate the help!

Thank you all so much—we couldn’t do this without you 💙

This weekend at Nawakwa, Wisconsin–Upper Michigan Kiwanis is investing in something powerful: our youth.

💙Key Leader is more than a weekend—it’s a transformational experience where students discover their voice, build confidence, and learn to lead through service.

🌲 Connecting youth to nature builds purpose, belonging, and lifelong impact.

✨ When young people find their fit, incredible things happen.
Excited to share the inspiration from camp!
