It’s not goodbye, it’s see you in the spring! 🌱

Third graders at North Woods International wrapped up this year’s garden lessons by getting their garden beds ready for winter. They noticed the changes happening around them, listened to a garden story, and helped pull plants from the beds.

To finish the day, students enjoyed a garden taste test featuring fresh carrots and green beans!

While they were sad to say goodbye to their garden for the season, they’re already looking forward to returning in the spring.

Students at Southern Bluffs Elementary wrapped up their final garden lesson of the year by enjoying their last taste of garden-grown vegetables, clearing out a garden bed, and collecting marigold seeds to save for next year.

As they said goodbye to the garden for the season, one student shared that he plans to plant his own marigolds and start a garden at home! 🌼🌿

It’s always heartwarming to see students grow to love the garden and take what they’ve learned, and even a little piece of the garden, home with them.

First graders at State Road Elementary School got hands-on with one of our star super foods: kale.

Students learned about both curly kale and dino kale by feeling, tasting, and identifying the differences between the two varieties. After exploring kale, they got to use it in their own Superfood Garden Salsa.

The best part? Everyone gave the salsa a big thumbs up!

Second graders at Hintgen Elementary School kicked off Garden Lesson 2 by harvesting fresh tomatoes right from their school garden. They learned how one of their garden-grown superfoods would become part of a delicious Salsa.

After gathering their ingredients, students took turns adding, chopping, and mixing everything together. Once their salsa was ready, it was time for the taste test!

It was a great way for students to see where their food comes from and enjoy the fruits, and veggies, of their work!

Garden Lesson 2 at Summit Environmental School brought plenty of curiosity, laughter, and tasty discoveries! Students learned how superfoods provide important nutrients to help their bodies grow and stay healthy.

After making and tasting the Super Food Salsa, one third grader shared, “It tastes good without the chip even!” When asked to pose for a photo with his salsa, one kindergartener said, “Sorry, it was so yummy. I ate it already!”

The students wrapped up the lesson with a moment of mindfulness, slowing down to listen to the sounds of nature around them in the garden.

Hamilton Elementary School & SOTA 1 La Crosse students got to explore, taste, and learn during Garden Lesson 2.

Students learned all about super foods and got hands-on by picking an ingredient, chopping it up, and making their own Superfood Salsa. Of course, they also got to try their creations!

While exploring the garden, students made an unexpected discovery: a few sleeping bees resting on the flowers. One gentle bee was given the name “Wispy.”
