Surfrider's 2026 Membership Drive is still on til Aug 31! ๐Ÿ‘๐ŸŒŠ

Earlier this year, Surfrider celebrated our 1,000th Victory for the ocean โ€” and that's only possible because of people like you. Help us keep the wins coming by becoming a member of the Coos Bay Chapter!

When you join our grassroots network, we create the groundswell of momentum needed to protect our ocean and coasts for future generations. From fighting climate change to protecting clean water and tacking single-use plastics, weโ€™d love to have you along for the ride ๐Ÿ’™

Thank you to the 64 volunteers who showed up this morning at Bastendorff beach to cleanup after the July 4th illegal firework activities!

We picked up 73-5 gallon buckets and 5-55 gallon drums worth of trash. We ended up filling a 6 cubic yard dumpster.

This is by far our biggest annual beach cleanup of the year!

Mark your calendars for a SALT (Surfers Awareness in Lifesaving Techniques) training on Sunday April 26th from 10am - 2pm in Charleston, OR! Participation is limited to 20 people, with only 4 spots left!

๐Ÿ‘‰ Sign up here: https://x.gldn.io/e/ihS6ahuIF1b

Hosted in collaboration with Curry County Aquatic Safety, the SALT training program teaches basic lifesaving awareness and hazard recognition to the local surfing community. SALT provides practical skill building for surfers in lifesaving techniques, it is not a certification.

The training will start at 10am with a classroom presentation (Charleston Fire Department, Training Room), then move to the beach where participants will practice lifesaving techniques on the beach and in the water (Sunset Bay State Park, North End Beach Parking). Techniques are designed for surfers and include the use of a surfboard.

Participants should bring:
- Wetsuit (and booties/gloves if you use them)
- Surfboard
- Notebook (for classroom portion)
- Packed lunch
