When systems fall short, community steps in.

That is exactly what we are seeing across the South Coast. Neighbors helping neighbors, making sure no one goes without.

Stand in the Gap is about coming together to support families facing rising costs and ongoing uncertainty.

Whether you give, share, or show up, you are part of that impact.

Together, we can make sure our community stays strong.

Today is the KVAL/KCBY CanDo! Food Drive, and we’re asking our communities to help us Stand in the Gap for local families facing rising food costs and financial hardship.

Every food item and every dollar donated stays local and helps support children, seniors, veterans, and families across Coos and Curry Counties through South Coast Food Share and our partner agencies.

Financial donations make a huge impact because we can stretch those dollars further through food bank partnerships and bulk purchasing, helping provide even more meals to our communities.

You can support the CanDo! Food Drive by:
• Attending the event
• Donating food
• Donating funds
• Giving online at ORCCA South Coast Food Share
• Following ORCCA on Facebook and sharing this fundraiser to help spread the word

When our communities come together, we can make sure fewer families have to choose between food, housing, utilities, and other basic needs.

Thank you for continuing to support your neighbors and helping us Stand in the Gap.

Stand in the Gap for Our Neighbors

Families across Coos and Curry Counties are still feeling the strain.

While the immediate threat of a federal shutdown has passed, the underlying challenges remain. Rising food prices, high housing costs, and limited access to affordable groceries in rural communities continue to put pressure on households across the South Coast.

Recent changes to SNAP, including stricter work requirements for some adults, are adding to that strain. For many, the support they once relied on is harder to access or no longer enough to make ends meet.

Here, a single unexpected expense can quickly turn into a crisis. Choosing between groceries, rent, or utilities is a reality too many of our neighbors face every day.

At South Coast Food Share, a program of Oregon Coast Community Action, we are seeing more people turn to local food pantries and meal sites for help. Many are working families, seniors on fixed incomes, and individuals who have never needed assistance before.

That is why we are continuing the Stand in the Gap Fundraiser, with a goal of raising $100,000 by June 30, 2026.

This funding allows us to keep shelves stocked with nutritious food, support local food pantries and meal sites, reach rural communities, respond quickly when families experience hardship, and ensure dignity and consistent access to food.

When systems fall short, community steps in. Together, we stand in the gap.

Your Impact

$1 provides 3 meals
$10 provides 30 meals
$100 provides 300 meals
