Human Rights Advocates of Coos County Vehicle Stabilization Program

This program will help people living in vehicles keep them safe, running & legal.

We promote equal rights & dignity with our events: the Season for Nonviolence, Pinwheels for Peace & Human Rights Day; a student Art Exhibit honoring Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.; the Homeless Persons' Memorial; & the Growing Through It advocacy services. Many people depend on a vehicle for temporary shelter especially during this time of COVID, as well as transportation. We support people who need

help with repairs, fines, towing, impoundment, license, registration & DMV fees. Volunteers with repair skills will earn gas vouchers for helping others fix their vehicles. GTI will coordinate payment plans for people who need to get their driver license reinstated, obtain a title, start insurance & registration. Brain Injury Awareness and Education

Coordination with the Brain Injury Association of America’s current Campaign, GTI will research & organize the dissemination of educational materials & training for police officers, medical personnel, social workers, others service providers, schools, community members & the county at large. Classes for people living with brain injury will help them develop better compensation strategies, and to be supported to follow through with healthier choices - like taking vitamins or eating better food. Working with the Brain Injury Alliance of Oregon, we will introduce their TBI Identification Card to professionals and assist people with brain injuries to fill it out for use. They can carry this card to explain their needs when they are in a crisis. In this way, people on the street will be empowered to advocate for themselves confidently & credibly in stressful situations.

Alex Pretti should be here with us today.

He was an ICU nurse, son, friend, neighbor, rock climber, dog lover, and so much more.

His parents describe him as “a kindhearted soul who cared deeply for his family and friends and also the American veterans whom he cared for as an ICU nurse at the Minneapolis VA hospital.”

Alex was exercising his constitutional right to film and peacefully protest ICE’s presence in Minneapolis. We will not let the Trump administration’s blatant lies hinder the truth or dim Alex’s legacy.

Rest in Power, Alex. 🤍
