June 6, 1944 • D Day

Today we remember the courage, sacrifice, and unwavering determination of the thousands of Allied troops who stormed the beaches of Normandy on D Day, changing the course of history.

More than 160,000 soldiers, sailors, and airmen took part in the invasion, knowing the risks they faced in the fight for freedom. Their bravery and the sacrifices of those who never returned will never be forgotten.

As we honor the Greatest Generation, let us reflect on the price of liberty and express our gratitude to all who have served our nation.

“Freedom is never free.”

Please take a moment today to remember the heroes of June 6, 1944, and the legacy they left for future generations.

🇺🇸 We remember. We honor. We will never forget. 🇺🇸

🇺🇸 Did You Know? 🇺🇸

Did you know that June 12 is Women Veterans Day?

This important observance recognizes the millions of women who have served in the United States Armed Forces and commemorates the signing of the Women’s Armed Services Integration Act on June 12, 1948. This landmark law allowed women to serve as permanent, regular members of the U.S. military.

While many people are familiar with Veterans Day in November, Women Veterans Day provides an opportunity to specifically recognize the contributions, sacrifices, and achievements of women who have worn our nation’s uniform throughout history.

As June 12 approaches, we encourage everyone to take a moment to learn about the remarkable women who have served our country and to thank the women veterans in your family, community, and beyond.

🇺🇸 Mark your calendar for June 12 and help us spread awareness of Women Veterans Day!

🧵❤️ Today we delivered 32 beautiful handmade quilts to the Pacific Pregnancy Clinic!

This wonderful project was made possible through the partnership of the Bandon Quilters Guild and the Coos Bay Chapter DAR. Each quilt was lovingly created to provide comfort, warmth, and support to families served by the clinic.

We are so grateful for the talented quilters who donated their time, skills, and generosity to make this project a success. Community partnerships like these are a wonderful reminder of how much can be accomplished when organizations come together to serve others.

Thank you to everyone who helped make these 32 quilts possible. We hope they bring comfort and love to those who receive them. ❤️

"I Was There" is a free community film screening celebrating and honoring the stories of our local Veterans on Thursday - June 4th at 6pm, at the Egyptian Theatre Coos Bay.

This special event is part of a local Veteran storytelling project, created to highlight service, resilience, and community connection. Entry is completely free and open to the public.

We are especially honored to share that Ben Patton, grandson of General George S. Patton, will be in attendance. His participation brings a unique historical and personal perspective to this event.

Today, we pause to honor and remember the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country. Their courage, dedication, and love of freedom will never be forgotten.

The Daughters of the American Revolution proudly remembers those who gave their lives for the liberties we cherish today. As we gather with family and friends this Memorial Day, may we also take a moment to reflect with gratitude on the true meaning of the day.
