This is a question that comes up often in our work—how early can mental health challenges begin? Too often, early signs are dismissed or families are told to “wait and see,” even when a parent knows something doesn’t feel quite right. At We Care, we know that noticing patterns early and seeking support can make a meaningful difference for children and families.

A new little library has found a home with our Mental Health Services team, thanks to Tandem, Partners in Early Learning. The books donated explore many of the topics children and families we serve may be navigating, while also supporting early learning, language, social-emotional development, and a love of reading. The shelves are just getting started, with more books still to come.

Thank you, Tandem, for this thoughtful donation and for helping put meaningful, educational books into the hands of local families.

We Care Services for Children is hiring two full-time professionals to join our team. For over six decades, We Care has provided culturally responsive, attachment-focused mental health and developmental services to young children and families throughout Contra Costa County. Our Spanish-speaking Child & Family Therapist provides relationship-based therapy and clinical support to children from birth to six and their caregivers. Our Family Intervention Specialist provides behavioral support, caregiver coaching, and coordinated services in homes, schools, and community settings. If you’re passionate about early childhood and meaningful work with families, we’d love to hear from you.

We Care is now enrolling for our part-day (income eligible) preschool program! This program is for children ages three to five and includes developmentally appropriate activities, social-emotional development, and kindergarten readiness.

Last week we celebrated the end of another wonderful school year with a family picnic for our preschoolers, the children in our Beyond Boundaries classroom, and their families. A huge thank you to Lindsey Darden for organizing such a fun and memorable event, and to our incredible teachers, staff, and volunteers who helped make the day so special. From carnival games and face painting to delicious food and lots of fun, it was a fantastic way to wrap up the year. Most of all, we loved seeing the children's smiles, laughter, and excitement throughout the day.
