NH Sierra Club Chapter

NH Sierra Club Chapter Enjoy, explore and protect the earth. NH Sierra Club is the local volunteer-run chapter

Currently, the Chapter's top priority is supporting environmental protections and promoting a clean energy future. With issues like jobs, the economy and rising energy costs on everyone's mind, it's sometimes tough to take a minute to think about climate change --even though it's a problem that will affect all of us. But the fact is that the solutions to climate change are also the solutions that

will help boost our economy and create good jobs at the same time. The good news is that in the Granite State there's a clear consensus that we need to build a clean energy future. Citizens, businesses, and state and local governments are all taking action to curb global warming. NH joined the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative (RGGI) to cap regional carbon emissions coming from utilities. It has invested the revenues from the RGGI funds to help homeowners and businesses to increase their energy efficiency. Eight cities and towns in NH have signed the US Mayor's Climate Protection Agreement to curb their carbon pollution and 164 NH towns have passed a resolution calling on national leaders to take action for a clean energy future! By investing in the technologies and industries that will provide America with that clean energy future, we can save money by saving energy and build a clean energy economy with new jobs and incentives for new business. Now that NH is doing its part its time for our national leaders to do there's! Get involved in our campaign today to help create a clean energy future for America.

Ecologist Michael Whittemore has been working all summer on the botanical survey project to inventory the plants of The Bowl Research Natural Area. If you missed his July 18 talk about the project, you can view it here on youtube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O4IbINyqqmo

Attendees at the talk signed up to join Mike on an iNaturalist Field Day August 30. The trip is now fully subscribed, but we encourage those interested to sign up for the waitlist, in case any openings occur (and to be contacted for future hikes and programs). To join the waitlist, email us at [email protected].

On October 4 Michael will be leading Exploring the Old-Growth Forests of The Bowl, a slower, less strenuous educational walk with plenty of time to stop, observe, ask questions, and learn how to read the history of a forest.

Great explainer about the Super Bad Crypto Data Center Bill signed on by the GOP trifecta in the state house, Gov, House and Senate. The legislators reasonably lay out how it puts data center before residents and taxpayers. Thank you Senator Fenton, Rep Lucy Weber and Kat McGhee NH State Rep
