Long before she became a country music legend, Dolly Parton was a percussionist and majorette in her Sevier County High School Band in Sevierville, Tennessee. Over the years she anonymously funded numerous band programs by purchasing uniforms and instruments for her alma mater and many other schools in need. While Dolly’s exact lifetime giving total is not known, she directly gave or raised well over $500 million for charitable causes. Sometimes the biggest stars never forget the little bands that helped them get started.
