Leadership Columbia and the Leadership Columbia Alumni Association are Columbia Chamber programs designed to create and connect the leaders of Columbia, SC

WHAT IS LEADERSHIP COLUMBIA? Founded by the Columbia Chamber in 1972, Leadership Columbia is a 10-month program designed to provide our community with an enduring source of diverse leaders who are prepared and committed to serving their region. A skills-building program, Leadership Columbia aims to: identify and motivate emerging community leaders; provide an educational experience with a strong emphasis on social and community awareness; and challenge participants to apply their talents within their community while providing an opportunity to become involved. HOW ARE CANDIDATES CHOSEN? Each year, approximately 60 candidates are chosen based on community involvement, capacity for leadership, commitment to improving the Midlands, and an interest in enhancing their capabilities. Applications are blindly evaluated by Leadership Columbia alumni and applicants are interviewed by an alumni panel. The combination of the application and interview scores are used to determine the class. WHAT IS INVOLVED? Beginning with an orientation in August, class members will attend a mandatory two-day retreat, nine full-day class days, and a graduation ceremony. In addition, each candidate is required to participate in the class project as well as various community events and volunteer opportunities.

🌺 Aloha, Leadership Columbia Class of 2027! 🌺

LC27 officially kicked off their Leadership Columbia journey last week with an overnight Retreat at Camp Cole and a little Aloha Leadership spirit! 🌴

Retreat is all about building connections, stepping outside of comfort zones and getting to know the people who will share this experience over the months ahead. Between team-building, plenty of laughs and time together, LC27 got their first real taste of what makes Leadership Columbia so special.

The class also heard from local nonprofits about opportunities for their class project, beginning the process of choosing how LC27 will make its mark on the Columbia community.

A huge thank you to Camp Cole for welcoming us and providing such a special setting for Retreat, and to the Leadership Columbia Advisory Board members who put so much time and energy into making the experience possible.🤙🌺

LCAA is BACK! 🎉

What an incredible turnout for our Leadership Columbia Alumni Association happy hour yesterday! It was great to see so many Leadership Columbia alumni reconnecting, catching up with old friends and making new connections across class years.

Leadership Columbia is now accepting proposals for the Leadership Columbia Class of 2027 Community Project! Each year, our class partners with a local nonprofit to complete a meaningful project that creates a lasting impact in our community.

If your nonprofit serves one of our six counties—Richland, Lexington, Fairfield, Kershaw, Calhoun, or Newberry—we encourage you to apply!
