Residents of Pine Mountain Acres and Woodland Park have been showing up to Kennesaw City Council, and they finally got a response...but maybe not the one they were hoping for.

These are some of Kennesaw's older neighborhoods, where city parks are shared community spaces, not private subdivision amenities. For a while now, residents have been raising concerns that their neighborhood park isn't being properly maintained. And like most public comment, it's usually a one way street. A little friendly competition, good beer, and even better company 🍻🧠

Last Thursday, some of our Kennesaw members met up at Horned Owl Brewing for trivia night, proving that building community doesn't always have to happen in a meeting room. Whether we're advocating for a better Cobb or testing our knowledge of random facts, we're always looking for ways to connect with neighbors and strengthen local relationships.

We affectionately call him the History Kid, and Andrew Bramlett brought a good story to Kennesaw City Council.

On October 24, 1932, Eleanor Roosevelt stepped off a campaign train in Kennesaw. She needed a ride to the Atlanta airport and her scheduled pickup hadn't arrived yet, so she caught a lift with journalists from the Atlanta newspaper instead. The moment was captured in a photograph published in the Atlanta Constitution the next morning.

Kennesaw has history. Andrew is making sure people know it.

Donovan Giardina came to Kennesaw City Council with two simple fixes that we can make right now to improve pedestrian safety. Best part? They won't cost a dime.

Lower the speed limit on Paulding Street, the connector between Main Street and Jiles Road. And add pedestrian lead time to crosswalk signals, those few seconds that let walkers get a head start before cars begin moving. Both came out of a walking tour he led with A Better Cobb. No new infrastructure. No big budget. Just changes that make Kennesaw safer for people on foot right now.

Jared has a question for the 2050 comprehensive plan: who is it actually being built for?

The people living in Cobb County in 2050 are in their 20s and 30s right now. And younger generations are consistent about what they want: bike lanes, walkways, greenways, and real transit options beyond roads and cars. If the plan is serious about the future, transit has to be the priority.

Public comment is open to everyone. If you don't show up, commissioners won't hear what's important to you.

When you come make public comment with A Better Cobb, you meet people like Thomas, a member of the public who showed up to share concerns about a new state law preempting local authority to regulate livestock. It's not what you might expect, but that's kind of the point.

We expect a big crowd at tonight's Marietta City Council Meeting. Since tonight will be the first City Council meeting for many, we wanted to create this quick guide to help you with what to expect.

Whether it's about data centers, affordable housing, public transit, or safer streets, we want you to be able to find your voice and speak up about issues that you care about the most.

We love that people are becoming engaged and finding their voice, but keep things civil, meet your neighbors, and observe how decisions are made that impact our city and community.
