Metro North Block Club The Metro North Block Club is a group of citizens who work together to improve the quality of life in our area of Tremont. ABANDONED property and vehicles.

The Block Club meets monthly (March - November) to bring neighbors together so they may get to know each other and discuss topics of mutual concern, such as the happenings in the neighborhood. We also address issues such as:
LITTER (in lots, alleys and backyards or along t...he curb line.) Proper RUBBISH and GARBAGE containers. LAW ENFORCEMENT and FIRE SAFETY. RATS and roaming DOGS. STREETS (plowing, paving, cleaning,, & potholes.) SPEEDING. ZONING VIOLATIONS or CHANGES (industrial noise, odors and pollution). VARIANCES. GENERAL APPEARANCE (parking, lighting, play space, traffic signs etc.) Future BEAUTIFICATION projects.

Updated the info on the bulletin board. Tremont Arts & Cultural Festival Sep 19; Tremont Tree Giveaway Oct 2; info for voters or wannabe voters; info on protecting oneself from domestic violence; info on SNAP and other public benefit access how to’s; info on options for paying county property taxes and financial counseling available from the county. THE next Neighborhood Litter will be Sept 12th (Sat after Labor Day) from 9-10 AM. I will be in front of the sign on Brainard just west of the intersection of Brainard and Scranton. I’ve taken the liberty of changing the name and shortening the time to reflect a gentler approach to cleaning. I’m also experimenting with an earlier start time to see if some of you earlier risers will join in.

I will provide buckets, grabbers, garbage bags and latex gloves. We will set out in pairs and if enough of you participate, we might be able to get all of the tree lawns picked up. I hope many of you will attend!

The Arch at Saint Michael was the venue for the 45th anniversary of Cleveland, Housing Network and a celebration of the senior housing buildings’ grand opening. Officials from various companies were present for an incredible spread, free drinks, Latin music, and tours of the former school campus. The campus includes former Central Catholic High School and the convent. Hundreds of folks came out to mingle. Among them were Eric Lutzo, Del and Miriam Caraballo (all on Holmden), and Ryan Harris (Kinkle). I was there too (Valentine). Here Wric, Del and Miriam and I are with Cleveland Councilwoman Jasmine Santana. We hadn’t seen Ryan yet. Members of the block club were also invited as I noted in an email to the mailing list on Aug 8/26.

Thank you to everyone who came to the Thursday nights community meeting! It was a night full of speakers and resources. My favorite part was being able to celebrate Sue Krosel for her leadership of the Metro North block club!
