Food Strong We cultivate food justice in Northeast Ohio and beyond by building enduring local food systems from the ground up. Thank you for your support!

Food Strong's mission is to use fresh foods as a tool to educate, empower, and cultivate health throughout Northeast Ohio. We have a School Garden program, our Care-A-Van community outreach events, Youth Entrepreneurship, and our newly-launching Care Strong Project, a partnership with UH Family Medicine, Salvation Army and the Case Western Reserve PA Program. The Care Strong Project is a wellness

What happens when you don’t control your food source?

Nearly 30,000 pounds of beef imported from Argentina was recently recalled after it entered the U.S. without going through a required import reinspection. The USDA classified it as a Class I recall, meaning there is a reasonable probability that eating the product could cause serious health problems.

Food security isn't just about having enough food on the table. It's also about having a connection to the people, farms, and systems that produce it.

The more we depend on food traveling hundreds or thousands of miles and passing through countless hands before it reaches our plate, the less control we have over that process.

But growing some of your own food, shopping from local farmers, joining a community garden, or simply getting to know where your food comes from can change that.

You don't have to grow everything you eat. Even small steps can make a difference.

Know your food. Know your source. Build a stronger food system.

That's what we're working toward at Food Strong: a food system where our communities have greater access to fresh food, local farms, gardens, and the knowledge to feed themselves.

When access to food becomes less certain, the ability to grow food locally becomes more important.

Growing our own food and strengthening local food systems gives communities more control over where their food comes from and helps create a safety net that doesn’t depend entirely on federal programs or distant supply chains.

A garden can’t replace SNAP, and no one should have to choose between feeding their family and meeting other basic needs. But investing in local food production means building communities that are more resilient, connected, and prepared for whatever comes next.

Food security starts at home, in our neighborhoods, and in our communities.
