St. Augustine Community Cupboard & Closet

The Community Cupboard and Closet offer food, cleaning supplies, hygiene products, clothing, household items, and more to people in need. to 3 p.m.

Everything is free, and all are welcome. We are open every Saturday 11 a.m. Guests may come once a month.

In July, the St. Helen Harvest Workers came to work at our Community Cupboard! Each year, St. Helen Newbury Life Teen members participate in a week long service retreat. They came to learn about the Community Cupboard and Closet and then worked to help stock the Cupboard.
In the afternoon, the work teams got together for a "Holy Hike", stopping back at St. Augustine Church to learn about "Be Welcoming", the Timothy Schmalz sculpture recently installed at our church. What a wonderful experience for these students and by the way, they were great workers! St. Helen Harvest Workers ROCK!

A big shout out to St. Dominic's School Service Camp week this summer for middle schoolers! Groups of students came everyday for 4 mornings to serve at the Community Cupboard and Closet. They cleaned out bins and containers, sorted donations and even moved all our wonderful raffle basket items to a space where the baskets can be created for our Fall Fundraiser!

Thank you, customers and staff at the Brooklyn Grocery Outlet for donating $4,400 worth of groceries to our Community Cupboard and Closet in the month of July! What a wonderful partnership! I can't wait to see what we do together next year!!🙂

It's August and time to clean out all closets before the school year begins! We are in need youth clothing sizes 6-14, both girls and boys! We also need men's clothing - shirts, hoodies and smaller sizes in pants, sweatpants and shorts! We can always use new men's underwear, specifically boxer briefs sizes small to extra large.

Remember, you can drop off donations at 1415 Howard Avenue at our school building, Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 1 :30 p.m.

A great big THANK YOU to KeyBank employees who came out June 2nd to help stock the Cupboard on their Neighbors Make The Difference Day! This was their 5th time volunteering for us on KeyBank's Day of Service and we really appreciate them!

A HUGE Thank You to the 7th graders at Gilmour Academy! A few weeks ago they came for the morning to help out stocking in the Cupboard and Closet! Along with their teachers, the students created a Mother's Day table, brought stock from the storage room into the Cupboard and sorted and stocked items in the Cupboard.

Earlier this month, Tails From The City - Cleveland donated much needed dog food for St. Augustine Community Cupboard and Closet. Pet food, you might say, huh?

Many of our guests have a companion pet cat or dog and sometimes these pets are their closest friends. If you have ever been loved by a pet, you know that it is part of your family. Many of our guests will feed their pet before they feed themselves.

Tails from the City was founded in late 2011 when a group of acquaintances responded to a call for help with a hoarding situation. Over 100 cats were rescued and brought to their hastily acquired shelter.

After being in such an awful environment, there was a lot of work to do to get the cats healthy and adoptable. Most of those original cats have found furever homes, but the number of cats in need continues to grow. To date, they have placed over 5,000 animals. In 2021, Muttley Crue Rescue CLE joined Tails.

Staff and volunteers from Tails From The City also volunteer for our annual Fall Fundraiser, and we are so grateful for this partnership!

We send a big Thank You to the parishioners of St. Noel Church for donating bags of needed food and essential items last week for our Community Cupboard! It is so awesome to have this partnership with St. Noel Church! God is Good!

It's Spring Cleaning time! Please take a look in your closets! We are in need of new or gently used bedding (all sizes )and bath towels (still in good shape) for our Community Closet. We also need to replenish our supply of new or gently used luggage (the kind with 2 or 4 wheels) and duffel bags. These are used for our guests who are unhoused so they have a place to keep their belongings.
