Apollo's Fire Baroque Orchestra

Apollo's Fire Baroque Orchestra “The U.S.A.’s hottest baroque band.”
–CLASSICAL MUSIC MAGAZINE

Named for the classical god of music and the sun, Apollo’s Fire was founded in 1992 by the award-winning young harpsichordist and conductor Jeannette Sorrell. Sorrell envisioned an ensemble dedicated to the baroque ideal that music should evoke the various Affekts or passions in the listeners. Apollo’s Fire is a collection of creative artists who share Sorrell’s passion for drama and rhetoric.

Apollo's Fire is ecstatic return to Irish repertoire this summer with a brand new program. In Echoes of Ireland, seven musicians follow the trail of Turlough O’Carolan – the beloved, blind harper who traveled the roads of 18th-century Ireland, playing at weddings and funerals. From heartbreaking laments and ballads to joyous dances, the artists on fiddles, cello, Celtic harp, lute, and vocals bring to life the legends of Ireland. A delight for the young and old!

Tickets are now on sale for Apollo's Fire - Chicago's inaugural benefit, A Midsummer Night's Dream, on Sunday, July 19th.

A monumental evening! Set in the gorgeous Cathedral Hall at the University Club of Chicago, we celebrate the first five years of Apollo's Fire - Chicago!

Jeannette Sorrell and the musicians of Apollo’s Fire invite you to a midsummer celebration. Lute songs from Shakespearean England lead to baroque virtuosity, including Vivaldi's red-hot Summer Concerto. Violinists Alan Choo and Emi Tanabe set sparks flying with Passion. Period.
