Car number 24!

This car went to Alina. She arrived here from Ukraine two years ago with her parents and younger brother. Alina is studying nursing at Tri C while she works as a hostess at a local restaurant.

A big thank you to the Milius family for the second car donated this year.

It costs around $1.50-$2 per mile to take rideshares in Cleveland. A donated car, including insurance, maintenance, and gas, costs about 40 cents per mile. You can save around hundreds of hours per year on a car versus public transportation. The math just works.

Plus, we have all these stories, like a father rushing his son to the emergency room at 2am with his car. Or, one woman’s neighbor went into labor, and the car was there to help. Or something simple, like a kid was able to pursue squash (his favorite) because the mother now had a car.

We followed up two years later on the first eight cars that we’ve done. Since there is such a high demand for a donated car, we’ve been able to get cars to people who really need them in partnership with Re:Source. All eight recipients had no car when they received their donated vehicle, and all eight had a vehicle when we followed up two years later. Some of the cars died, some lived, and one got totalled (a $5,500 insurance payout was received).

A decent car to the right person at the right time changes lives. Wheels to Work exists to make that happen.

This makes 10 cars on the year in partnership with Re:Source Cleveland.

Let’s keep running it back!

We followed up with Mr. Akhtar on how things were going with his donated car which he received in July.

As a direct result of the car, Mr. Akhtar was able to get a good job as an interpreter. He is the sole provider of a family of 6 (kids 3, 7, 9, 10). They arrived here in March of 2024 from Afghanistan. One of the first things refugee families will do in Cleveland is try to get a car. A car is a basic necessity in this city, not a luxury. I can’t stress that enough.

Not only the job, but with something like grocery shopping he’d have to wait a couple days to see if someone could take him. Now, “I can take my kids with me and they can get anything they need and want.”

He also shared a story where one of his young children got sick at 1am. He didn’t know what to do, so he drove his son to the Emergency room in his donated car. Everything worked out.

The whole idea behind this is that if you get the car to the right person, you can start a whole positive feedback loop. Get the car, get the job, less stress, take care of your children, do better at the job, be able to afford the next car… and so on.

We’ve followed up two years later on the first six cars. Every person was still employed and still had a vehicle.

It looks like this is really working.

Car number 22! Re:Source Cleveland connected us with Boche for this car. Boche is 18 years old and from Sudan. He arrived here when he was 11 years old with his family that includes three other siblings. Boche is someone that Re:Source knows well, as he was a part of their Teen Response program for years. An honor student and member of the ROTC program at John Marshall, Boche is currently studying information technology at CSU. The car can help him build his life, from getting to class to helping with family.

Big thanks to Maureen for the car!

All donated cars are quickly sold in Northeast Ohio. With Wheels to Work and our partnership with Re:Source, 100% of the car's value goes directly to a recipient at no cost. And, the donor can deduct up to $5,000 too if they itemize, much more than any other charity.

Maureen would have given this car to a person in her life if they needed it, like a niece or family friend. Wheels to Work exists to connect someone like Maureen with someone like Boche, a standout. Visit wheelstoworkcleveland.org for more info.

This is just a win.

We spend $0 on marketing, so tell people about us.

Matiullah arrived in the United States with his wife and four children six months ago. The family left Afghanistan in 2021 and spent three years in the UAE in refugee camps. One of the first things that refugee families do in Cleveland is try to get a car to get to work and school. His first car was stolen at gunpoint. Matiullah got scammed on his second car, and it only lasted a few weeks. Both cases (robbery and scams) are very common for refugees trying to get transportation upon arrival. Luckily, Wheels to Work was able to get him this van shortly after in partnership with Re:Source Cleveland, so that Matiullah can help his family get on their feet in Cleveland. The first thing he said, with a smile, was "I can fit my whole family in here!"

Thank you to the Dickriede family for donating their van (second picture). This is a great way to help people.

Every donated car in northeast Ohio is flipped for cash. Donate it to Wheels to Work if it has life in it, and we transfer it directly to people in need at no cost in partnership with Re:Source Cleveland.

Mr. Akhtar with his donated car! From Afghanistan, he arrived here in March of 2024 with his wife and four kids, ages 3, 7, 9, and 10. The first thing he did was borrow money from friends and family to buy a car to get a job. His car was stolen in May, but Wheels to Work and Re:Source Cleveland were able to get him this car by early July.

A car is a basic necessity in starting a life in Cleveland. From work to extracurriculars for kids, from grocery shopping to doctors appointments. Every other nonprofit in northeast Ohio sells the donated cars for cash, and a fraction of the value makes it to charity. With Wheels to Work, the car is transferred directly to people in need at no cost (the recipient needs to have a license, registration, and insurance, so they do pay something).

Thank you very much to the Hazen family (in the second picture) for their donation.

Donate your car to a person! It's one of the most impactful ways to help. Visit wheelstoworkcleveland.org for more information.

Neema with her car! The oldest of seven siblings in a single mother household, Neema works and attends school full time. This car will be extremely helpful to a very deserving family.

Thank you to the Lampe family for the donation, and Re:Source Cleveland for all of their work in making this happen, and especially the years of building relationships with the recipients before they get a car.

Wheels to Work seeks working donated cars to be transferred directly to people in need at no cost. We are the only nonprofit that does so. In Northeast Ohio every donated car is quickly sold and a fraction makes it to charity.

Donate your car to a person! Change their life!

Asadik had to learn stick to get the donated car, and he did great with tutoring from Patrick at Resource Cleveland. He said, "Words are inadequate to convey the extent of my gratitude."

Thank you to Sam for the donated car, a 2015 Versa Note with only 78,000 miles!

Donate a car and change someone's life. Cars are used for work, further education, and everything in between. A car is opportunity in material form.

Blandine works full time as a case worker while attending CSU for a Master's in Criminology as a single mother of a two year old. She lost her car last week and her rental was running out. She would not have been able to buy a car, and it would have been a struggle with the bus and Uber. We got her this car yesterday in partnership with Re:Source Cleveland.

Thank you to Mr. and Mrs. Spellacy for the generous donation. They had no use for the car and were able to have a huge impact on someone's life.

This is a bit of a miracle for Blandine! Just a really cool thing to be a part of.

Fawad had recently arrived from Afghanistan when he received his car in September of 2021. In the midst of chaos, he said that, "The car brought stability to my life." It was a tool to help him and his family get started with a new life.

He used the car to get a job, as well as make extra money as a delivery driver on the side. His family could use the car for everything in between like grocery shopping or visiting family or school and appointments for the kids. We were able to follow up with Fawad, and 30,000 miles later he said the car is running great.

The car was donated by our friend Mark (who I like to call Marky Mark). He was only offered $300 for the trade in. Instead, he decided to really help someone. He said, "Wheels to Work finds people who don't know how they're going to get around, and give them hope. If you know what hopelessness feels like, and you have the means to be a part of something this special, you won't regret it."

Big thank you to Mohammad at Resource Cleveland for helping us to make this story happen.

Car #15! Fatima and her husband would wake up at 5:00am to take two busses to work. The kids would have to figure out how to get to school. Think of everything in between from grocery shopping to soccer practice.

This is an awesome car that was just sitting there. Thank you to the Derr family for changing the life of a family without a car. Plus, they can deduct the full blue book value (about $7500).

Had this car been donated anywhere else, on average only $2000 would have made it to charity. The real winners would have been the auction house, the used car lot, and the predatory financiers. Instead, in partnership with Resource Cleveland, we were able to transfer the car directly to Fatima at no cost.

We followed up on this car, and the father of three was able to get a job as a direct result of the donated car. A donated car can have a massive multiplier effect and help people to build a new life.
