Please join us in congratulating Greg Keener on his promotion to Director of Programs & Community Impact at the Shallow Ford Foundation! 🎉

Shore Scholars is going strong this fall! 🍂

Last night, students gathered for two college readiness workshops designed to help them prepare for the next step in their educational journey:
🎓 Juniors learned about the college application process, including deadlines, requirements, and tips for standing out. Students also got started on their CFNC/Common applications.
💰 Seniors focused on the FAFSA, receiving hands-on guidance as they filled out the form. Some students and parents/guardians even left with their FAFSA completed.

A special thank you to Lindsey Kennedy of Yadkin County Schools and Elizabeth White of Surry Community College for teaching these workshops. We're also excited to have Jon Huggins, our new Shore Scholars Program Coordinator, on board and helping lead these efforts.

Students walked away with valuable information, practical tools, and greater confidence as they prepare for life after high school.

✨ Education Grant Highlight! ✨

Earlier this year, through the Stokes County Education Foundation, the Foundation awarded a classroom grant to Piney Grove Middle School, where students are creating a stunning dining room table from scratch!

Led by teacher Adam Jones, students created the tabletop design on a computer, transferred it to materials, and are now bringing the project to life piece by piece. The finished table will include more than 1,000 pieces, making it a showcase of craftsmanship, problem-solving, and teamwork.

We love supporting hands-on projects that help students build practical skills, and gain exposure to skilled trades. Thank you to the educators and donors who make opportunities like this possible. We look forward to seeing the finished project in the months ahead! 🛠️📚 Stokes County Schools

💙 A few weeks into the school year, we are highlighting Shore Scholar Carrie Penley, whose journey is a powerful reminder of what can happen when determination meets opportunity and support.

Through the Shore Scholars program, a partnership between Yadkin County Schools and the Shallow Ford Foundation, Carrie gained the encouragement and guidance she needed to navigate the challenges of being a first-generation college student and pursue her goals with confidence.

Today, she is a bestselling author and aspiring medical writer, proving that perseverance and a strong support system can help turn aspirations into achievements.

As the school year gains momentum, Carrie's story reminds us that investing in students and believing in their potential can create a ripple effect that lasts far beyond graduation.
