Today we recognize March 30th as International Zero Waste Day. This year’s theme is to focus on food waste. The annual waste generation is expected to hit 3.8 billion tonnes by 2050 wich continues to cause significant harm to our climate.

Join us by choosing one small habit you can stick with this week. Some examples include carrying a reusable bag and choosing refillable products, composting food scraps (easy and can be done from home), saying NO to single use plastic, or considering a donation of any extra canned goods to a local food pantry.

Comment what you will do to contribute! ♻️🍔

Today is World Water Day!

World Water Day celebrates water and inspires action to tackle the global water crisis. A core focus of World Water Day is to support the achievement of Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 6: water and sanitation for all by 2030.

This year’s focus is on water and gender equality. Women and girls are disproportionately affected by water-related challenges due to entrenched gender roles, inadequate infrastructure, underrepresentation, limited funding, restrictive social norms and systemic inequalities.

Check the link below to find more information and resources to support our world's water.

This year IHRC is also introducing its own water support project, CleanWater.Support

March 15th is International Day to Combat Islamophobia, a day recognized by the United Nations to raise awareness about prejudice against Muslims around the world. It reminds us of the importance to promote freedom of religion for everyone. https://www.un.org/en/observances/anti-islamophobia-day

In 1948, The Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) established Article 18:“Everyone has the right to freedom of thought, conscience and religion; this right includes freedom to change his religion or belief, and freedom, either alone or in community with others, and in public or private, to manifest his religion or belief in teaching, practice, worship and observance.” https://www.un.org/en/about-us/universal-declaration-of-human-rights

Today and every day, support a world where all faiths feel respected! 🌍💚

For over 100 years, International Women’s Day has celebrated the achievements of women globally – social, economic, cultural, and political. In a world still pushing forward on gender equality, it is incredibly important to continue to celebrate women – their strength, their resilience, and their inherent dignity. This year's theme is Give to Gain; consider celebrating the women-focused charity of your choice with a gift in honor of the occasion! https://www.un.org/en/observances/womens-day

Established in 2022, the annual UN International Day for Disarmament and Non-Proliferation Awareness is intended to promote better understanding of the importance of disarmament of weapons of mass destruction, whether nuclear, biological, chemical, or conventional.

The goal is to raise awareness of young people in particular around the risks these weapons pose, and the corresponding benefit of limiting them: enhanced global peace, reduction of conflict, and reduced global suffering.

In 2024 -
- the world spent $2.7 trillion on its militaries
- 1 in 12 people worldwide faced hunger

Less than 4% of that spend, $93 billion annually, would end global hunger by 2030.

Today, we recognize Zero Discrimination Day as a global movement celebrating every person’s right to live a full and fruitful life, free of discrimination in all its forms. In 2014 UNAIDS established March 1st as day to recognize individuals that are prevented from reaching their full potential due to ongoing stigma of HIV. If you know someone that has been affected by this, here is a link for more information on zero discrimination day. https://www.unaids.org/en/2026-zero-discrimination-day
