A statement from our executive director, Shannon Hughes, on the botched ex*****on of Christa Pike. Ignite Peace believes that the decision to pause other ex*****ons scheduled in Tennessee for the rest of the year, as this is the second botched ex*****on in 2026, indicates that state leaders recognize the brokenness of this system, but we hope that all of us take from this experience that the death penalty cannot be fixed and must be abolished.
