Alumni Spotlight: Meet Chris!

"When I came to Serenity, I was struggling to step into recovery and hold myself accountable. After another relapse and another near-death experience, I finally decided I had enough. From the moment I walked through Serenity’s doors, I was all in.

Being surrounded by people who were in the same stages of life and working through similar struggles gave me a sense of camaraderie I had never experienced before. We were able to face those struggles together, and that made all the difference.

After a year at Serenity and another year at Bassett House, I’ve built a solid career, healthy relationships with my family, friends in recovery, and my partner. Today, I’m able to travel the world and do the things I’m passionate about with the people I love.

I owe so much to Serenity and everyone who played a part in helping save my life."

Alumni Spotlight: Meet Marc!

"One of the biggest things SRN gave me was a sense of community. It taught me how to lean into other people and showed me that I never have to go through anything alone. For the first time, I felt a sense of belonging, and that has made all the difference in my recovery.

Something I'm most proud of today is my consistency. No matter how I feel, I show up. I try to be my genuine self day in and day out and stay committed to the things that help me continue growing in recovery.

The longer I've stayed around SRN, the more I've realized that recovery is so much bigger than me. The ante goes up. On the good days and during the tough seasons, I understand that I have a responsibility to those coming in after me. I want to be someone others can look to for support, encouragement, and an example that lasting recovery is possible."

At Serenity Recovery Network, our staff recognized that early recovery often comes with barriers that fall outside of what traditional community resources can provide. Sometimes it is obtaining an ID needed to start a job. Sometimes it is transportation, clothing, recovery-related expenses, or another unexpected need that can become a major obstacle when someone is working to rebuild their life.

That is why our staff created the Resident Sponsorship Fund...to help fill those gaps and make sure the little things don’t become big barriers to progress.

The fund provides assistance with personal needs, transportation, identification documents, recovery-related expenses, and other costs that can stand in the way of moving forward.

Because sometimes, it really is the little things that make a significant difference.

Every contribution helps give the men and women at SRN greater access to the resources and opportunities they need to build stability, independence, and a stronger foundation for long-term recovery.

EXCITING NEWS for Serenity Recovery Network!

We are incredibly excited to announce that we have been awarded funding from the OneOhio Recovery Foundation to launch our new Employment Navigator Program!

And even better, our Employment Navigators are two people who already know our residents, our mission, and our community incredibly well: Sara Beebe and Sonya Hewett! Through this program, Sara and Sonya will work directly with residents to help remove barriers to employment, connect them with job opportunities and community resources and support them as they work toward greater financial stability and independence.

Recovery is about so much more than abstinence. It is about rebuilding a life, and meaningful employment can be an important part of that process.

We are incredibly grateful to OneOhio Recovery Foundation for investing in this work and allowing us to expand the support we provide to individuals building lives in recovery.

This may look like the finish line, but it’s really just the beginning.

When we decided to pursue this property, we had a crazy amount of optimism, a vision, and absolutely no guarantee it would work. The abandoned building next to our women’s program wasn’t for sale. We had never even walked through it. But we saw what it could be and we took the risk.

Then came the real work- fundraising, grants, construction, contractors, inspections, setbacks, furniture, movers, cleaning, and countless people stepping in to get us across the finish line. And yesterday, we got to see what all that work was for. An abandoned building is now a home. A place where 8 people in recovery will have safe, stable, affordable housing as they continue building their lives.

The risk paid off. The work was worth it.

Today is the day! 🎉

After months of planning, hard work, and anticipation, we're excited to welcome our community to the Open House and Ribbon Cutting for our newest Level 1 Alumni Recovery Housing property.

Join us today from 4:00–6:00 PM as we celebrate this important step in creating more recovery-focused housing opportunities in our community.

We can't wait to share this space with you and celebrate what recovery makes possible.

Resident Spotlight: Meet Brian!!

"Before coming to Serenity Recovery Network, I couldn't manage my own life. I was spiritually, mentally, and physically broken. I knew I couldn't do it on my own, and I felt like death was right around the corner. That's when God put someone in my life who suggested I come to SRN.

Since arriving at SRN, I've been given a solid foundation in recovery and the opportunity to build a new way of life. The structure, accountability, and support have helped me see things from a different perspective and given me hope for the future. I've also built friendships that I know will last far beyond my time here.

Today, I'm focused on continuing to grow in my recovery and making the most of the opportunities in front of me. One goal I'm especially excited about is buying a new truck. It will help me expand the landscaping business my brother and I are building, spend more time with my family, and be of service to others by helping people get to meetings and connecting more with my sponsor.

I'm grateful for where I am today and for the chance to keep building a life I never thought was possible."
