Happy Mother's Day to our incredible CancerFree KIDS moms.💛

Being a mom of a child with cancer changes everything. It means learning medical terms, managing medications, sleeping on hospital cots, being an advocate, carrying courage alongside fear, and loving with an even fiercer heart.

Today we're celebrating every mom in our community - those actively navigating treatment, those finding a new normal after treatment is done, and those remembering their children. To our bereaved moms, we honor you and hold your child's memory close today and always.

This week we're spotlighting one of our favorite Butterfly Walk Teams, the March of the Nurses and Friends!🦋🌟

This team has been joining the Butterfly Walk since 2007 and is made up of local pediatric oncology nurses and support staff who come to show support to CancerFree KIDS patients, survivors, and bereaved families.

The inspiration from the name came from March of the Penguins, which was one of Hanna Paribello's favorite movies.

We can't wait to see our favorite nurses, providers, and friends at this year's Butterfly Walk. Thank you for all you do for CancerFree KIDS families!🎗️💛

The inaugural Celebration of Courage Columbus is around the corner and we want to thank our 2026 presenting sponsor, Nationwide Children's Hospital! CancerFree KIDS has funded groundbreaking research in Columbus since 2012, investing $4.5 million to advance early stage pediatric cancer research through the work of the brilliant scientists at Nationwide Children's Hospital.🎗️

This Nurses Week, we're celebrating all the incredible nurses who are on the front lines caring for kids with cancer. These nurses provide more than just exceptional medical care. They bring laughter and joy to hospital rooms. They calm fears during scary procedures. They are with kids and families during some of their hardest days. Their compassion, skill, and heart inspires us every day.

Registration is open for the Ohio Department of Health's 5th Annual Childhood Cancer Summit, coming May 19, 2026.

We encourage childhood cancer patient families to register for this free event to hear the latest updates in childhood cancer research, care, and survivorship. The theme of the program is Ohio Partners to Improve Childhood Cancer and sessions will highlight the impact of working together in a variety of ways, including:

🎗️New state and federal investments in childhood cancer research
🎗️Improved peer support and social work collaborations
🎗️Advances in survivorship, palliative care, and the transition for childhood cancer patients to adolescence and adulthood

You can attend the event virtually, or select to be part of one of the watch parties in Cincinnati and Columbus, where CancerFree KIDS representatives will be in attendance along with other nonprofit partners supporting the childhood cancer community. Champion Highlight🌟 Meet Ruby! Ruby was 4 years old when she was diagnosed with Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia on July 7, 2024. She's currently in the maintenance mode of her treatment. Ruby’s favorite color is pink, and she loves to wear pretty dresses and twirl around the room when she dances.

Ruby has already found a meaningful way to help spread the word about the Butterfly Walk—she came up with the idea to create postcards about the event to pass out to her friends and family, inviting them to join her and support CancerFree KIDS.

Last year she wasn't able to participate in the Butterfly Walk with her intense treatment, which makes this year even more special. We are so excited to see Ruby—dressed, dancing, and sharing her joy—at the walk this year. 🦋
