One week to go to the Celebration of Courage, and we'd like to introduce you to Courage Champion Marko!

Marko is 16 years old and loves playing soccer, skateboarding, playing piano, composing digital music, and hanging out with his friends.

He was diagnosed with a rare kidney cancer in 2012 at the age of 2, and has been cancer free for almost 14 years.

Marko and his family have been part of the CancerFree KIDS community for many years, attending the Butterfly Walk and being at events like Celebration of Courage. They share, "Research made a huge difference in the survival rates for kids with cancers like Marko, and we're grateful that he has been able to grow up healthy and do the things he loves."

We are excited to welcome Greg Bell, Mark Clement, Kevin Gusweiler, Bob Hoffer, Jeff Ortman, and Jackie Reau to our Board of Trustees, along with Krista Guagenti, Brian Pero, and Andrea Wilkins to our Columbus Advisory Board.

Congratulations to CancerFree KIDS grant recipient Dr. Tim Cripe, his team at Nationwide Children's and Vironexis Biotherapeutics, a spinoff company born from his research, on very encouraging results for a one-time gene therapy designed for blood cancers that have historically been difficult to treat.

This novel approach is designed to turn a patient’s own body into a “biofactory,” continually producing a protein that helps the immune system find and fight cancer cells. Early clinical trial results are incredibly promising, and the next phase is expected to include patients as young as 12.

Breakthroughs like this are built on years of discovery, learning, and investment in promising ideas. This is why we fund research at its earliest stages: to help today’s bold ideas become tomorrow’s breakthrough for kids with cancer.

Congratulations to our 2026 100 Mile Challenge winners! 🎉🌟 Thanks to their incredible efforts, CTI Clinical Trial and Consulting, DBL Law, ARCO Design/Build, and Team Singer will each have a 2026 CancerFree KIDS research grant named in their honor.

We are so proud of these four teams and deeply grateful for every participant who came together to support Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. We've seen firsthand how our investments from events like the 100 Mile Challenge can be the spark that promising research ideas need to become life-changing discoveries.

Every donor, supporter, participant, and advocate is part of that impact and part of that change.

The 2026 Celebration of Courage is just 2 weeks away, and we'd like to introduce you to one of our Courage Champions, Maddie!

Maddie is a happy 13-year-old who loves showing horses.

At 2 years old, Maddie was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia (AML) - a cancer with just a 26% 5-year survival rate. Because of the intense treatment, she was inpatient at Cincinnati Children's for six months, always needing to be minutes away from an ICU. Today, she is over 10 years in remission and cancer-free.

Her family shares, "Maddie is living proof that miracles can happen, but praying for a miracle shouldn't be the only hope for a cure. We are so grateful for the team at Cincinnati Children's, and foundations like CancerFree KIDS for supporting patients and families, raising funds for new treatments, and driving awareness of these childhood cancers. They are changing the future for our children.

⭐ WE DID IT! $1 MILLION+ RAISED! ⭐

Thanks to everyone who helped make this year's 100 Mile Challenge our biggest and best yet! Together, we hit our goal and raised more than $1 million.

Our CancerFree KIDS community truly showed up, with 4,215 participants logging 301,067 miles throughout the month.

And every dollar brings us closer to what matters most: better, gentler treatments for kids with cancer. 💛

To everyone who walked, ran, donated, rallied a team, shared our mission, and cheered us on: THANK YOU.

A promise is a promise! 🤩 Team Schneller Knochelmann Plumbing, Heating & Air raised an incredible $28,383.58 for the and celebrated by shaving hair, beard, and eyebrows in honor of Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. 🎗️💛 This is a first in 100 Mile Challenge history!
