Cincinnati Cats

Our population at the Red Lion site is getting smaller. We have been blessed with some amazing homes for barn cats. Janice, Lauren, and Sarah have recently provided life saving homes for some of these cats and we are working to coordinate with others who have responded. We are close to having homes for all of the cats without significant neurological symptoms. We do have a couple of cats that walk with a slightly different gait, but get around normally.

Our next challenge, and it is a big challenge, is finding placement for the cats with mobility issues caused by an underlying neurological disorder. These cats are much like our other barn cat candidates but have some limited function of the back legs. These limitations mean that they require a little more protective placement than a busy barn may provide.

We are still looking for barn homes for mostly friendly cats from our Red Lion site. A number of cats have gone to wonderful barns already, but we have about a dozen more cats still needing places to go. For a successful transition the cats will need to be confined in the barn, an enclosed tack room or a large cage will work, to allow them to become acclimated and realize that this is their new home.

These cats have been living outside and should be good mousers. Some can be handled while others are a bit more hands off. None of the cats are feral and all are accustomed to being around people.

All cats going to barn homes will have been spayed or neutered, tested for FIV & FeLV, and vaccinated. There is no adoption fee and we will provide food that they have been eating to help them transition to their new home. We can arrange transport anywhere in the Cincinnati/Dayton tristate region.

With many thanks to Dr. Katie Carullo and the team at Cincinnati Hills Animal Clinic, the majority of cats in our Red Lion project are ready for barn homes. We are currently working with a couple of barn owners for cat placement, but still have about 10 cats looking for barn homes.

All cats going to barn homes will have been spayed or neutered, tested for FIV & FeLV, and vaccinated.

Barn homes will need to be able to confine the cats for a number of weeks while they become acclimated to their new home. Enclosed tack rooms are perfect for this, though large cages will work as well.You can visit our website to learn more:

Little Hilary loves it when Loeki comes to visit. Hillary is a special needs kitty with neurological symptoms that limit her mobility to some extent. Lieki is a gentle giant in our house and is a very comforting presence.

Little Hilary loves seeing our big guy Loeki. This is the first special needs cat we have brought into our home since we lost the 3 cats with Epidermolysis Bullosa more than a year ago. While we are just fostering Hilary for a short time, she reminds us how special some cats are and the reward of providing them with the extra care and love they need to thrive.

This sweetheart came from the Red Lion site and has an unknown neurological condition.

Hilary is being cared for by our rescue partners at SPCA Cincinnati and has also been evaluated by Dr. Goodman, of Evendale Blue Ash Pet Hospital, and Dr.Mossine, neurologist at MedVet Cincinnati. Dr. Mossine determined that Hilary’s neurological issues are cerebellar in nature, but the exact cause and details of how it is manifested are unknown. Similar to cats with CH (cerebellar hypoplasia) Hilary and some cats at the Red Lion site have limitations in some muscle control and exhibit small tremors at times. But unlike CH, these cats don’t move in a wobble and are able to jump. Special needs cats are the BEST!

2 of the cats from the Red Lion site found an amazing barn home at Fairway Ridge Stables LLC . Enyo and Noodles are lucky cats for sure. In addition to the wonderful people there, the boarding facilities are beautiful and immaculately maintained. A sweet home for both horses and feline friends. Thank you Karen for helping us save these cats. (Photos taken just before going into carriers)

We continue to work on helping the cats at the Red Lion site. There are a number of people who have stepped up to assist us recently.
We thank Dr. Katie Carullo and the team at Cincinnati Hills Animal Clinic for their accommodation and flexibility in assisting us with the cats.
We are always grateful for donations. We would like to recognize recent donations from Doug, Lisa, and Ed. The continuing support of Lynn and Klaus are instrumental in our ability to continue to help cats.

The greatest recognition goes to Megan. This woman is superhuman in what she accomplishes and provides for these cats. Truly an inspiration.
