Thank you to the many who came to the SOS ART 2026 Opening on Friday at the Art Academy of Cincinnati (AAC) and thank you to Joe Girandola, president of the AAC, and to Jamie Schorsch, board member of SOS ART, who gave the introductory remarks. It was a rich and convivial evening with powerful art that resonated throughout the building. Thank you to all the artists who participated in the show and added their strong voice for peace and justice; to Tim Stegmaier for his moving and loudly silent performance embodying the Buddah of compassion, of Peace and Justice; to the Last Boppers who provided a pleasant musical entertainment throughout the evening; and to all who contributed food and drinks for a sharing and friendly potluck. Last but not least, all gratitude to the AAC for offering generously their venue for the event.
If you are yet to catch the show please do make time to see this powerful exhibit. The exhibition will be on view until July 12.

For A Better World 2026 exhibit features the works of poets and artists who use their voice to bring light to important issues.
Jo Anne Moser Gibbons and Mike Wilson reflect on the violence perpetrated by law enforcement authorities. Their poetry is accompanied by the art of Tory Keith. Susan F. Glassmeyer, Blanche Kabengele and Stephanie Ulm dwell on violence and the prevalent gun culture. Their poetry is accompanied by the art of Calcagno (Cal) Cullen. Elena Estella Green and David Henderson reflect on truth, freedom, wisdom, and knowledge. Their poetry is accompanied by the art of Pam Kravetz. Joanne Greenway and Roberta Schultz dwell on immigration and finding a sense of belonging. Anne-Marie Herrera’s art accompanies their poetry. Jason Haap and Carole Stokes-Brewer reflect on justice, repression and revolution. Their poetry is accompanied by the art of Mason Judge.

June is a month of exhibitions for us at SOS ART! Following the opening of the For a Better World earlier in the month and more recently, the SOS ART 2026 exhibition, we are gearing up for yet another exciting exhibition- this time featuring artists from Kenya! “Voices from Kenya” is the 5th biennial “Voices from…” print exhibit and cultural festival that SOS ART is curating and organizing in partnership with Kennedy Heights Arts Center . The first four “Voices from...” were from the countries of Oaxaca/Mexico, Lebanon, Czechia, India, and this year from Kenya.The “Voices from Kenya” show consists of 154 prints by 42 established contemporary Kenyan artists reflecting on their social and cultural reality.

Mark your calendars for the opening reception of "Voices from Kenya: Social and Cultural Reflections” to be held on June 27 (6-8pm) at Kennedy Heights Arts Center. Also be sure to make note of the Kenyan Cultural Festival (July 11), Curator guided tour (July 15) and Kenyan Movie Festival (Aug 2, Aug 9 and Aug 16 at Esquire Theatre.

For A Better World 2026 exhibit features the works of poets and artists who use their voice to bring light to important issues. Sherie Shaffer and Vickie Cimprich's poetry reflect on the destruction of ecology and the precarious environmental balance. Their poetry is accompanied by the art of Mary Anne Donovan. Maureen (Mo) Conlan and Lisa Prantl reflect on the loss of freedom and the fall of the nation. Their poetry is complemented by the art of Janice Hudson. Bettina Ernst and Josie Smith reflect on hope and solidarity in the bleak environment of today. Emily Storch’s work accompanies their poetry. Accompanied by the art of Zoey Trimble, Don Fleming and Sandy Litteral reflect on the plundering of Mother Earth for fossil fuel and climate justice. James George and Lonna D. Kingsbury reflect on consumerism and the lack of accountability as profit becomes the sole goal. Their poetry is accompanied by the art of Mark Ullrich

For A Better World 2026 exhibit features the works of poets and artists who use their voice to bring light to important issues. Jeffrey Hillard and Barbara Bonney ponder on existential questions and memory. Their poetry is accompanied by the work of Geoffrey “Skip” Cullen. Donna Viox Brigger and Nancy Susanna Breen reflect on truth and justice in the current political climate. Rick DeForrest’s art responds to their poetry. Ella Cather-Davis and Diane Germaine delve on memory, ageing and belonging with S. Augustine’s art accompanying their poetry. Gwen Cee and Juanita Mays address our shared humanity and the man-made boundaries separating us. Their poetry is complemented by the art of Eddy Risimini. Rita Coleman and Laurel Chambers reflect on the wars tearing apart the world and the loss of humanity. Their poetry is accompanied by the art of Josie Love Roebuck.

Their poetry is accompanied by the art of Teddy Dorio. Bert Biscoe and Matt Birkenhauer reflect on the destruction of democracy, the politics of greed and the loss of hope. Their poetry is complemented by the art of Leslie Lehr Daly. Andrew Bishop and May Garner dwell on environmental justice. Their poetry is accompanied by the art of Mary Mark. Armando Romero and Henry Spottswood reflect on nature, community and the complexities of belonging. Their poetry is complemented by the art of Kurt Storch.

Mendoza reflect on home, belonging and what it means to be American. Their poetry is accompanied by the art of Michael Hurst. Thomas Backer and Henry Jacquez reflect on peace, religion and brotherhood. Their poetry is accompanied by the art of Farron Allen. Barbara L. Barnes and Penelope Epple dwell on democracy, gender, identity and representation in their poetry accompanied by the art of Charlemae Sexton. We are delighted to invite you to the opening reception of our much awaited annual exhibitions- SOS ART and USA Miniprints for peace and justice. Now in its 24th year, SOS ART 2026 presents for 24 days an art show and event of creative expressions for peace and justice. More than 100 Greater Cincinnati artists will participate in this year’s SOS ART event at the Art Academy of Cincinnati The event features an interesting mix of paintings, sculptures, photographs, prints, artist presentations, etc. on current issues of peace and justice.
Join us on Friday, June 19, 6 - 9pm for the opening reception featuring introductory remarks by artist and art teacher Jamie Schorsch, Music Entertainment by the “Lastboppers” and a potluck reception.
The exhibition will be on view until July 12.

The exhibit features the poetry Lauri Ann Aultman and Barbara Marie Minney who reflect on the mind, identity and mental health. Their poetry is accompanied by David Henderson’s art. Carol Barrett and Blau’s poetry reflect on ecology and environmental destruction; it is accompanied by the art of Mark Patsfall.

Yesterday was the opening reception of For A Better World 2026. Many thanks to all the poets and visual artists of FABW 2026 who came to the opening reception. Your presence brought warmth and an empowering community feeling to the gathering. Thank you also to their family and friends who accompanied them and to all the visitors who came to support poetry for a better world and SOS ART.
Special thanks to Anne Skove who was instrumental in coordinating the exhibit and to St John Unitarian Universalist Church who provided generously a venue for both the exhibit and the Opening Reception.
