Ever wondered how 530 Food Rescue works? 🥕

When a food business has surplus food to donate, our dispatch team places the donation with one of our 60+ nonprofit partners. The food rescue is then posted on the 530 Food Rescue app for a volunteer to claim.

Volunteers pick up the food and deliver it to the nonprofit where it’s needed most. 💚

That’s how we turn surplus food into a community resource!

When asked about volunteering with 530 Food Rescue she shared, "Food waste is a problem nationwide. I am happy to have the opportunity to help address the issue on a local level.

530 Food Rescue makes it easy to fit useful volunteering into a busy schedule. I especially enjoy meeting folks at the various non-profit organizations that receive these donations. Their work is an inspiration!"

Our CA Climate Action Corps fellows, Andrea & Natalie, nearing the end of their fellowship term at our site. We are so grateful for their hard work over these last 11 months. 💚

Each of them shared takeaways from their time with our site:

"I've loved learning all about food waste recovery, completing food rescues together, and seeing firsthand the difference this work makes," said Andrea.

Natalie shared, "From coordinating the movement of small surplus items to overseeing massive, thousand-pound rescues across Butte County, we get to be directly involved in creating a more equitable food system."
