Home Infusion Options Now Accepting New IVIG Patients

Every new patient begins with a thorough intake, where HIO's nurses walk through medical history, current medications, and what to expect from treatment. One of the most common topics that comes up at this stage is what happens after the session; many patients report mild side effects, such as headache, fatigue, chills, or nausea, in the 24 hours following their infusion.
"IVIG infusions require careful attention to the individual patient," Lavine said. "I focus on appropriate premedication, education on hydration, gradual rate titration, and close monitoring throughout the infusion to help minimize reactions and other complications. If a reaction does occur, we are trained to recognize it quickly and have established protocols and medications in place to respond appropriately and keep our patients safe."
That kind of preparation, reflects HIO's broader philosophy: care shouldn't feel like something that happens to a patient, but something built around them. Bringing IVIG into the home, rather than a hospital setting, gives patients a familiar, comfortable environment, often with fewer scheduling barriers and less disruption to daily life, while maintaining the same level of clinical oversight and safety monitoring found in a hospital infusion suite.
