Today we celebrate Cinco de Mayo, which commemorates the Battle of Puebla in 1862, when a vastly outnumbered Mexican army defeated French forces in a powerful act of resistance and national pride.

While not widely celebrated across all of Mexico, Cinco de Mayo has become a meaningful day in the United States to honor Mexican heritage, culture, and resilience.

At the Diversity Scholarship Foundation, we recognize the importance of understanding the history behind the celebrations. Today is a reminder of the strength found in community, perseverance in the face of adversity, and the rich cultural contributions of Mexican and Mexican-American communities.

Let’s celebrate with intention, respect, and appreciation.

¡Feliz Cinco de Mayo! 🇲🇽

It is with great sadness that we share the passing of the Honorable Gino L. DiVito.

Judge DiVito was more than a distinguished member of the judiciary—he was a mentor, a leader, and a steadfast supporter of the legal community. His commitment to justice, integrity, and service left a lasting impact on all who had the privilege of knowing him.

We are deeply honored that his family has requested that, in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to the Diversity Scholarship Foundation, NFP. Through this generosity, Judge DiVito’s legacy will continue to uplift and inspire the next generation of diverse attorneys. Donations can be made on our website at https://diversitychicago.org/product-category/donations/dsf-donations/ or through the link in our bio.
