Nothing Special Productions

Nothing Special Productions Nothing Special dares you to revel in our mischievous mantra: if everyone’s unique, then we’re all nothing special. We solemnly vow to never stop playing.

Nothing Special, formerly known as Nothing Special Productions, and succinctly known as NSP, is in the midst of a revolution. Following the departures of founding Artistic Director Mikey Laird, founding Producing Director Brian Rohde, and Executive Director Erika Davidson, a new regime has stepped up to lead Nothing Special to new heights. Steering the rebuilt NSP Ship is Kit Ryan, who took over t

he reins of Artistic Director earlier this year, after serving two years as a company member. Daniel Vuillaume (aka DVD), currently the longest running NSP Company Member, will be getting down to business as the Executive Director, putting to good use his Masters in Arts Management. The Directors have been conspiring to rebrand Nothing Special, focusing on the most successful productions that the company has unleashed upon Chicago audiences, including Nightmare in Paradise, The Most Ado: A Party Play, and Fight Night. The Mission Statement that Kit, Scott, and DVD produced reflects our intention to be the theater company of Fun. Joining Kit and DVD in the revelry will be returning company member Morgan Gire, as well as a fresh band of merry ragamuffins: Dennis Davies, Kaitlin Eden, Raymond Jacquet, Ben Schlotfelt, and Sarah Shirkey. We don’t know much, but we do know this:

We solemnly vow to never stop playing.

Holy Crap! NSP has finally joined the 21st century. Since Facebook isn't hip with the kids anymore, we've finally gotten Twitter and Instagram accounts just in time for everyone to stop using those too! Please, please, please follow us on both to stay up on Nothing Special and what the whole company is up to!

Find us on both!

We're still here. Stay tuned, kids...

We here at NSP are excited to announce that our fundraising efforts at Fight Night: Valkyries and the staged reading of The Subject by Carolyn Kras have raised a grand total of $1,000 (yes, an even number because of one last donor's love of round numbers) for R**e Victim Advocates! Thank you so much to everyone who donated and took part in these events. We couldn't be happier to be part of such a positive and generous community.

FINALLY! To the lady of the hour, Gaby Labotka, who directed and curated Fight Night: Valkyries. Gaby steered this ship to encourage as much female representation as possible, from the submission guidelines requiring the scenes to pass the fighting Bechdel Test or to be fight choreographed by a female or non-binary person - MOST scenes did BOTH! - to the energetic and passionate hosting delivered by her and co-host Moira Begale.

Gaby and Moira also KILLED IT in their respective scenes for Nothing Special Productions and Otherworld Theatre Company.

What can we say, you OWNED the feminine warrior spirit of the Valkyries that inspired this very event!

Tonight, WE RIDE AGAIN!
